The Cloudshadow Sect was now at the height of its power, and Nash had no intention of involving himself directly in any of this. That was precisely why he intended to use Benson to eliminate Raven, all while keeping his own hands clear.
After all, Raven was supposed to have died five years ago. If the people behind the scenes found out that she was not only alive but had returned to Forreb, both he and the Larsson family would face annihilation.
“Don’t worry,” Benson said, determination gleaming in his eyes. “I’ll go find the evidence right now. I’m going to expose that wretched woman for what she is and make her pay the price!”
He added with a sneer, “You’ve probably already heard about the marriage alliance between the Cloudshadow Sect’s leader and Felipe from the Cherry family. It seemed Raven made a bold bet with Felipe, claiming that the sect leader would never marry him.”
He continued, “I figure she is planning to humiliate the Cherry family on the wedding day. But she won’t see the trap behind her. I’ll be there, and I’ll rip off her mask and show everyone who she really is. She’ll be utterly disgraced!”
By this point, Benson was so worked up he was practically gasping for breath. He had waited so long for this moment, a chance to see Raven destroyed to finally take revenge.
If he could just find solid proof that Raven had still been living in the lower realm six years ago, the Cloudshadow Sect executives would never believe her lies again.
While Benson was off in a frenzy searching for evidence, Cassian, who was still imprisoned in the Cherry family compound, was deeply worried about Raven’s situation.
He had initially planned to sneak away while the Cherry family wasn’t paying attention, but given his current identity, even if he escaped, he wouldn’t have the resources to find her. So, it was better to stay put and wait for information.
“Prideful idiot, when are you finally going to wake up?” Cassian muttered, perched lazily on the windowsill, gazing out into the distance.
He had once hoped the “prideful idiot” would stay unconscious forever, so he could permanently take over the body. But now that he’d been in control for so long, he was beginning to miss the days when the Primary Personality cleaned up his messes.
Just then, footsteps sounded outside the room. The door was pushed open without even a knock. Felipe and Mack barged in without so much as a greeting.
Cassian turned his head slightly to glance at them, then returned to staring out the window. He was in no mood to entertain their nonsense white Raven’s fate was still uncertain.
But Mack tossed a slightly worn formal suit onto the bed and ordered sternly, “Cassian, today Felipe is attending a gathering of Frihamen City’s elite heirs. Put this on and go with him.”
Apparently, Felipe had received a call half an hour ago from the son of a local real estate tycoon in Frihamen City, who wanted to throw him a celebration party in honor of his upcoming marriage to the Cloudshadow Sect’s leader.
Felipe was overjoyed. Normally, those rich heirs looked down on him, mocking the Cherry family as nothing more than nouveau riche without true status. But since the marriage news spread, they had been eager to befriend him, and he was enjoying the sudden attention.
Even though he hadn’t married into the Cloudshadow Sect yet, he was already no longer just the son of a crude upstart. He was now the esteemed heir of the Cherry family. Once he officially became the sect’s son–in–law, Frihamen City would be his playground.
