Chapter 3 You?

Vivienne asked Lucinda, “Do you really want to celebrate your birthday on the same day as your grandparents’ death anniversary?”

Lucinda fumed, “Yes! Blame yourself for giving birth to me on that day.”

“Fine. Then I won’t celebrate with you. I’ll be back from Rivemont a week later and divorce Sebastian. You have plenty of time to decide who you wanna live with,” Vivienne said, her voice flat.

Almost immediately, Lucinda blurted out, “I wanna live with Daddy! I don’t want you. You’re so bad! I want Eliza to be my mommy!”

Vivienne’s face turned ghastly pale at once.

After quite a while, she said with difficulty, “Suit yourself.”

Eliza, who was on the second floor, curved her lips slightly.

She thought, “It turns out getting slapped twice is totally worth it. Vivienne now wants a divorce.”

At this, she walked into the bedroom while tears streamed down her red, swollen cheeks.

“Sebastian, Vivienne has gone to Rivemont.”

Enduring great pain in his back, Sebastian was still furious.

“Great. I hope she never comes back.”

Hearing this, Eliza was secretly overjoyed.

Sebastian came from a prominent family, and he was born with pride. Being thrown to the floor by Vivienne was definitely the most humiliating moment in his life.

“But, Sebastian, what if she acts impulsively and wants a divorce?”

Sebastian arched an eyebrow, seeming a bit surprised.

But it only lasted a second. He shrugged, saying, “Whatever. She wants a divorce? Fine by me.”

Saying this, he thought, “Lucy and I are Vivienne’s only family left.

“We mean so much to her that she can’t even stand seeing us get sick.

“There’s no way she’d propose a divorce.”

Though already at the airport, Vivienne still couldn’t calm down.

She wanted a smoke but didn’t spot any designated smoking area.

So, she could only hold an unlit cigarette between her lips and take deep breaths.

Over the six years of her marriage, she had developed two generations of imaging chips for Corelynx Technologies.

The global sales of flagship smartphones skyrocketed thanks to the Vanta X2 Plus chip, which tied her and Sebastian’s fortunes together.

Therefore, divorcing him would be tricky. Dividing their assets alone was a great headache.

She pondered for a long time before taking out her phone and texting Kimberly Maynard, her assistant.

“I’ll give you a week to get me the details of Sebastian’s debts and assets. Oh, and all transaction records between him and

Eliza, too.”

“Ma’am, you can’t smoke here.”

Suddenly, someone tugged at the hem of her clothes.

She looked down and met a little girl’s gaze.

The little girl dressed plainly. Though her eyes weren’t exactly big, the double lids made them particularly lively.

Vivienne frowned, took away the unlit cigarette from her lips, and pinched it between her fingers.

‘Kiddo, busybodies tend to draw trouble to themselves. Don’t you know that?”

‘In fact, I do. But I’m not afraid.”

The girl smiled brightly.

Then she handed a piece of candy to Vivienne from her pocket.

‘Daddy only allows me to have one per day. You can have today’s piece. It’ll make your face hurt less.”

Vivienne was slightly stunned. As she saw the sincere expression on the little girl’s face, she took it.

she bumped into a kind-hearted, adorable little girl, who made her day.

The candy, though seeming insignificant, appeared to be the only good thing that happened in this long, disappointing day.

At Serenity Cemetery.

Vivienne sat between her parents’ tombstones with a mask on her face, which made her feel like she was sitting between them again.

Back then, she couldn’t find her father’s remains after the earthquake.

Chapter 3 You?

When the earthquake hit, the ground split open, and many fell into the fissure.

Her father was one of them.

She wiped their tombstones carefully.

Just then, the cemetery caretaker walked over. “Vivi, why are you alone this year? Mr. Hartwell didn’t come with you?”

She said concisely, “He’s busy.”

When saying this, she thought, “He’s busy comforting his so-called sister.

‘Sister my ass. Eliza is to be his mistress-if she isn’t already.

‘He raised her up and doesn’t want to see her with another man. He wants to be with her but still struggles with his conscience.

Even thinking of the despicable duo disgusts me.”

she bid farewell to her parents and walked toward the exit with the caretaker.

Opposite her were rows of memorials for the earthquake’s heroes.

She gazed at them, her eyes deepening.

‘Dr. Hayes’ family still hasn’t visited?”

The caretaker shook his head. “No. I’ve had people watching.”

She nodded solemnly.

When she was lifted out of the rubble, she had only one breath left.

Emmeline Hayes performed an emergency C-section and transfused her own blood to save her.

Jnluckily, when Emmeline tried to save a deceased mother’s baby later that day, she died because of an aftershock.

Vivienne asked Sebastian to find Emmeline’s family, wanting to support them.

But with Sebastian’s connections, all he could dig out was that Emmeline came from Northgale, and her husband was a doctor,

too.

Vivienne adjusted her clothes, walked toward Emmeline’s tombstone, and bowed deeply.

Sebastian and Lucinda had never reached out till the day of her parents’ death anniversary.

Only Celina Porter, her friend, texted her to comfort her.

At night, the Rivemont government organized a public candlelight activity at the cemetery for earthquake victims.

The candles set the night sky aglow.

Many people cried out loud, missing their families.

Vivienne’s eyes turned red uncontrollably as she murmured, “Dad, Mom, I hope you live long and prosper in your next life. Let’s be family again.”

She lit the candle and held it high.

ust then, Eliza sent her a video.

t was recorded at a hotel under the name of Corelynx Technologies.

Being surrounded by a crowd, Lucinda cheered happily.

It’s amazing celebrating my birthday on my actual birthday! I hope we can do this every year. Daddy, Eliza, I want you to be

vith me forever.”

liza and Sebastian looked at each other in the eye while smiling, their fingers interlaced.

Inder the flickering light, the passion in their eyes could barely be suppressed. In the eyes of others, they looked just like a ouple in love.

Vivienne clutched her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned pale.

he walked away from the crowd, took off her mask, and gasped.

uddenly, she heard a kid call for help.

he voice was so close, and she turned around to look in that direction.

What came into her view was a tall man dressed in white walking fast while holding a little girl with one hand.

Jnsure of whether he was a kidnapper, instead of making a move right away, she said loudly, “Stop right there! Put her down!’

The little girl heard her voice and looked up in surprise, exclaiming, “It’s me! Ma’am, it’s me!”

Recognizing the little girl from the airport, she clenched her fist and aimed at his nape.

Sensing her strike, he dodged nimbly and then hit back fast.

His strike was swift and sharp. Once she was hit, she’d never have a chance to fight back.

She tilted her body just in time to sidestep and locked eyes with him.

He was tall and lean, exuding an air of calmness.

The silver-rimmed glasses resting on the bridge of his nose glinted coldly under the streetlights, adding a touch of sharpness to his demeanor.
