Chapter 4 It’s Only Fair

Vivienne didn’t know what he meant, and she didn’t care.

She stared at him seriously. “Put the girl down.”

But he remained motionless.

She had trained in fighting since childhood, even defeating five combat champions in a row.

Without hesitation, she threw a punch at him again.

But he had suddenly become a gentleman, blocking her attack with one hand without hitting back.

Just then, she spotted her chance and snapped a sharp kick between his legs.

The girl shouted nervously, “Ma’am, he’s my daddy!”

Hearing this, she stopped immediately and only steadied herself after stumbling a few times.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a pair of sleek, casual loafers.

The man’s voice was soft and gentle.

‘Are you alright?”

Instead of answering him, Vivienne looked at the little girl. “He’s really your daddy? Then why did you call for help?”

The little girl said with an awkward smile, “I wanted to light a candle, but Daddy wouldn’t let me.”

Vivienne looked at the man.

He looked about her age, but there was something complicated in his demeanor.

When he struck, he was all fierce and sharp. Yet now, the gentle smile playing on his lips made him seem like a scholar.

He adjusted his glasses and explained unhurriedly, “With so many people here, I was worried she might get lost.”

“Oh, I won’t. Daddy’s the real concern.”

The little girl leaned closer to Vivienne.

Then she continued mysteriously, “Ma’am, he seems like a badass, right? In fact, he’s got zero sense of direction. All you need is a GPS to confuse him.”

Vivienne was very surprised.

Only Fair

She didn’t expect him to be so… hopelessly stupid.

The man glared at the little girl. Apparently, he wanted to retort.

Yet, he didn’t as he met Vivienne’s gaze.

He said with a gentle smile, “Yes, I’m lost. Could you lead us the way out?”

Vivienne said nothing more.

The little girl walked briskly in her shadow, saying with a grin, “Ma’am, my name is Harriett Kingsley. You can call me Hattie.

“My daddy’s name is Frederick Kingsley.”

Hearing this, Vivienne tilted her head and gave Frederick an once-over.

His crisp white shirt complemented his black trousers, embodying both precision and composed restraint in his demeanor.

As he walked forward with his hands behind his back, he fixed his gaze on the ground, and his expressionless face bordered on ascetic detachment.

But she soon realized it was just a facade.

If he were as detached as he appeared, how could he have fathered a daughter?

Perhaps her gaze was too blunt. Frederick sensed something and met her eyes.

He asked her casually as if she were a close friend, “Mind if I ask you a question?

“You’ve got great fighting skills. Then… what happened to your face?”

She answered straightforwardly, “Isn’t it obvious? I got slapped.”

“Who slapped you?”

She glanced at him. “Now that’s a question I do mind.

“The exit is right ahead. Bye.”

She walked into the darkness without looking back.

Little did she know that behind her, Frederick’s eyes behind his glasses darkened, merging with the thick darkness…

At Northgale Airport.

Kimberly called Vivienne right after she stepped out of the plane.

“Ms. Lancaster, I’ve sent Mr. Hartwell’s financial details and his transaction records with Ms. Benton over the past six years to your email.”

“Alright. Remember to thank the private investigator properly.”

Vivienne soon checked the documents and called Sebastian, trying hard to suppress her fury.

“Where are you?” she asked.

“I’m at home. Dad and Mom are back from Corvuston.”

Sebastian hung up expressionlessly and looked up, only to see Eliza pitifully plead with his father, Richard Hartwell, who was in the main seat.

“Richard, Vivienne didn’t mean to hurt Sebastian and me. She’s finally cooled off and wants to come home. Could you go easy on her?”

Richard set the teacup on the table heavily.

“She’s so over the line! She slapped you and Sebastian both! If word gets out, our family will be so humiliated.”

Saying this, he glared at Sebastian. “I told you not to spoil her.”

“Why are you blaming Sebastian for Vivienne’s fault?”

Lillian Fairchild, Sebastian’s mother, blamed everything on Vivienne.

She continued, “Vivienne thinks she can do as she likes just because Sebastian dotes on her so much. We gotta teach her a lesson when she comes back.”

Hearing their conversation, Lucinda walked toward Sebastian and asked, “Daddy, is Mommy coming home?”

He ruffled her hair and asked the maid to take her upstairs.

Lucinda was extremely upset, thinking, “Why does Mommy have to come back? She’ll only upset everyone.

“It’s so annoying-when she comes back, she’s gonna nag me about everything again.”

Sebastian was irritated as well.

He thought, “I’ve stayed away from other women after marrying Vivienne-except for Eli, who has no one to lean on. Why did Vivienne have to make a big deal out of it?

“Does she have to be so jealous? Haven’t I provided her with enough security?

“All my friends keep mistresses. They even mock me for being weird.

“They also warn me that if I continue to indulge her, she’ll get bolder and bolder and finally walk all over me.

“It turns out they’re right.”

Vivienne soon went back to Rose Manor

As her gaze fell upon the exquisite building, she remembered that this was the very place where Sebastian had proposed to her.

Back then, he had said, “Vivienne, the moment I saw you at campus recruitment, I swore to myself that I’d marry you. I promise I’ll love you forever.”

It had only been six years.

Eliza’s return changed everything.

She had every reason to believe Eliza had always been the one Sebastian loved.

But Eliza was his sister in name and was underage when he wanted to get married, so he proposed to her instead.

Her eyes turned icy.

She put the suitcase by the door and stepped into the hall. Suddenly, someone threw a teacup at her.

she dodged in time.

The cup fell to the floor and shattered, but the scalding tea all splashed onto her arm, instantly causing blisters.

Sebastian frowned. As he instinctively wanted to stand up, he thought of something and sat back.

A cold sweat broke out on Vivienne’s forehead from the pain as she scanned the room, her gaze razor-sharp.

Sebastian remained unfazed, Richard sipped tea leisurely, Eliza seemed complacent, and Lillian sneered.

‘Vivienne, this is just a small lesson for you. Don’t ever think we’ll tolerate your little games. Now, apologize to Seb and Eli…”

Before Lillian could finish, Vivienne crouched down, picked up a shard of the teacup, and hurled it at Sebastian’s head.

sebastian was caught off guard, and blood instantly trickled down his forehead.

Vivienne looked at Lillian and said coldly, “You hurt me, so I went after your son. It’s only fair.”

In fact, it pained Vivienne to hurt Sebastian. No matter what, he had been her husband for years. She wasn’t that heartless.

But it didn’t change the fact that he and his family hurt her first. She would never show any mercy to those who tried to hurt her, not even her husband.

“How dare you!” Richard slammed the table and stood up. Before he could lash out, Lillian suddenly collapsed to the floor.

The hall turned chaotic at once.

Sebastian strode forward and pressed Vivienne against the door by gripping her neck, the veins in his arms bulging.

“Good for you, Vivienne!”
