Chapter 9 She’s Always Right
As Frederick took off his glasses, a flicker of undisguised fury flashed across his eyes.
Daniel had already anticipated his reaction.
He pressed on Frederick’s shoulder, saying, “I didn’t tell you this to upset you. I just want you to reassess her rationally.”
Frederick said, his voice soft yet firm, “She’s always right.”
Daniel was slightly stunned. “Fred, listen. You should know your place. Maybe it was just a quarrel, and she’d patch things up with Mr. Hartwell pretty soon.”
Lowering his head, Frederick glanced at the clip again.
Daniel had a point-he shouldn’t interfere much without knowing the full story or how Vivienne felt.
But one thing was clear from this video. Everyone was blaming her, picking on her!
He pushed Daniel’s hand away.
Walking to the window, he said, his voice turning deep and cold, “I need you to do two things for me…”
The police soon arrived at Rose Manor and conducted a thorough search, but they didn’t find any cameras.
However, the video was shot in the study-it was an undeniable fact.
The police questioned everyone in the manor.
The servants were terrified.
In stark contrast, Eliza repeated calmly that she knew nothing about it.
Sebastian rushed back in his car. Upon entering the door, he first shot Vivienne a glance.
Then he walked to the police.
“Thank
you for coming here. In fact, I’m the one who installed the camera in the study. I’ll make it up to my wife. There’s no need to waste police resources here. I know how valuable your time is.”
Jonathan had connections at the station, and Vivienne presumed Sebastian had talked to him.
Since she didn’t claim the video was maliciously edited when she reported the whole thing, the police instantly knew what to
They took some statements, lectured them perfunctorily, and then left.
Vivienne glanced at Sebastian and Eliza, who were standing side by side. “Don’t you think you owe me an apology?”
She was 1.74 meters tall, and her high heels made her presence and questioning even more domineering.
Terrified, Eliza hid behind Sebastian and tugged at the hem of his clothes timidly.
“Sebastian, Lucy spends a lot of time doing her homework in the study lately. She prefers to be alone, so I installed the camera just in case. I didn’t mean to record your quarrel with Vivienne.
“I’m sorry that I posted the video online. Vivienne… attacked both of us, and Lillian almost died because of her. She kept hurting everyone who’s so important to me, and I got mad and upset. That’s why I…”
As she spoke, a tear fell onto Sebastian’s palm.
His heart softened uncontrollably.
He thought, “The clip blew up in all Corelynx Technologies’ work chats. By now, almost everyone in town knows Vivienne as a malicious shrew.
“I know Eli. She’s always so harmless and kind-hearted. I’m sure she did this on a whim-it’s natural because she’s still so young. I shouldn’t let her take the fall for this.
“Vivienne’s reputation is already trash. Besides, she’s done so many horrible things. She should take the blame.”
After weighing the pros and cons, he said to Vivienne, “You messed up first. Don’t you think you’re the one who should apologize?”
Hearing this, Eliza arched an eyebrow at Vivienne, mouthing complacently, “I won again.”
Vivienne glanced at her with contempt.
Then she walked toward Sebastian and poked his chest, saying, “You’re literally the most biased person I’ve ever seen.”
All of a sudden, Sebastian’s heart ached for no reason, and he instinctively called out, “Vivienne…”
She turned around and walked toward her car.
After the duo disappeared from her line of sight, she took out her phone from her pocket and saved the recording.
Sneering, she muttered, “An eye for an eye never gets old.”
In fact, the real purpose of her calling the police was to get Sebastian back to defend Eliza. In such a way, Eliza would brazenly confess all her crimes.
They surely didn’t let her down.
That night, Celina invited Vivienne to have dinner at Maison Aurelia together.
“Vivi. I’m sorry that I couldn’t be of help.”
Celina looked at her apologetically.
Knowing Jonathan had pulled some strings for Sebastian, she had a row with Jonathan, but it didn’t change anything.
Vivienne smiled and comforted her, “Actually, you were a huge help.
“You registered a few accounts to defend me in the comment sections, right?”
Celina blushed, “How did you know?”
“It’s pretty obvious. After all, among tens of thousands of people, you were the only one who sided with me.
“Thank you, Cece.” Vivienne held Celina’s hand.
Celina held her hand back. “I should thank you, Vivi, for choosing me to be your friend.”
Celina didn’t have a happy childhood-her stepmother had given her a hard time, and because of her timidity, her peers had always bullied her and laughed at her.
For a long time, she was terrified of attending events with Jonathan because he would just vanish and completely ignore her feelings.
It was Vivienne who spotted her uneasiness.
To be there for her, Vivienne, who had never been a fan of social gatherings, always went to events with Sebastian.
She blamed herself for being so useless. When Vivienne needed support, all she could do was type to defend Vivienne: “Please don’t scold Vivienne anymore. She’s the nicest person I’ve ever met.”
Vivienne felt better with Celina.
However, they didn’t get to spend much time together.
Right after the meals were served, Celina had to leave because of Jonathan’s ceaseless calls.
Vivienne told Celina with a smile that she’d be fine, but the second Celina was picked up by the driver, her shoulders slumped.
She couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss.
Then she ordered a bottle of wine and drank it alone.
Just then, a crisp, cheerful girl’s voice reached her ears.
“Vivienne!”
She looked over and saw Harriett and Frederick.
