Chapter 8
Settling into the Maybach, I let out a long breath.
All the torture I’d endured these past few days felt like some twisted nightmare.
Lucas took my hand, looking hurt.
“He got way too close to you back there.”
I laughed softly. “Jealous?”
Just as Lucas was about to respond, my phone rang – it was my mom.
She was crying on the other end.
“Autumn, where are you right now?”
“I don’t know why I slept for a whole day and night, but when I woke up you were gone. I’ve been so worried…”
My nose stung with tears as I gently reassured her. “Mom, I’m on my way home right now. I’ll be there soon, don’t worry. Just wait for me at home.”
My father died when I was young – my mother raised me all by herself.
Now she was suffering because of me, and thinking about that made my hatred burn even stronger.
Lucas could see how much I was hurting and tried to comfort me.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let the Blackwood family get away with this.”
Both Lucas and I had nothing but pure hatred for the Blackwoods.
The only reason I was saving Gabriel was to give them hope- right before I dragged them straight to hell.
Back home, I spent time comforting my mom and giving her a massage until she finally calmed down.
Looking at Lucas beside me, she couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity.
“Who’s this?”
Lucas looked at me nervously. I just smiled calmly.
“Mom, this is my husband.”
The next day, Lucas and I rushed to get our marriage license and posted about it on social media.
Beatrice called me almost immediately.
She sounded awkward as she spoke.
“I need to ask you a favor – could you delete that post? Gabriel saw it and started coughing up blood again…”
I raised an eyebrow. Easy enough to fix.
After hanging up, I blocked Gabriel on everything.
Out of sight, out of mind how could he not understand something so simple?
Three days passed quickly. That morning, Charles and Beatrice kowtowed ninety-nine times outside my house, counting each one out loud until they reached the full number.
When I opened the door, I saw their foreheads bleeding from all the kowtowing.
I stepped over them and got in the car. “To the Blackwood mansion.”
When I saw Gabriel again, his eyes were red as he said:
“Autumn, you came back. Have you changed your mind? Do you want to accept me now? I’ve been waiting for you…”
“I’ve been thinking these past few days, and I realized you’re still the best person to me. You’re the only one who truly loves me.”
I pulled out a silver needle, staring at the cold gleam reflecting off its surface as I murmured:
“This isn’t love, and you can’t forget me. You just went full circle and realized I was the only one who was ever good to you.”
In my past life, once we were married, he used my body however he liked.
I was constantly bedridden, getting pregnant over and over.
Every miscarriage left me curled up in agony, my vision swimming and my body covered in cold sweat.
He’d just ignore it all, eager to rush off and see Lily.
