Meanwhile, at the Sullivans‘ residence.
Kathleen’s mother, Jolene Atkins, was on the phone, looking shocked. She exclaimed in disbelief, “What? Kathleen is giving up her inheritance from her trust fund? Mr. Foreman, are you sure about this? That’s half a billion dollars!”
The lawyer, Isaac Foreman, replied, “Mrs. Sullivan, the documents arrived yesterday afternoon, and Ms. Sullivan signed them
herself. She intended to transfer all her interests to Ms. Lawson.”
Kathleen’s father, David Sullivan, snatched the phone. “That’s impossible! Even though Kathleen cares about Yve, she wouldn’t
have gone this far!”
Isaac said, “Mr. Sullivan, it’s not just the trust fund. Ms. Sullivan has also transferred her gallery, company shares, and even the
collection of artwork you’ve given her-”
“What? Even the original Manet that I’ve given her?” Jolene’s face turned pale.
“Yes, all legal procedures have been completed and notarized.”
After hanging up, the couple stared at each other in disbelief.
Jolene paced back and forth anxiously. “What on earth is she thinking? She seemed so calm at the party last night.”
“This is too strange,” David mumbled with a frown. “Kathleen has never been impulsive. For her to give everything to Yve… This
isn’t like her.”
Jolene hesitated. “Perhaps Bowen and Yve’s engagement triggered this?”
David shouted, “Call her now!”
“I’ve tried, but her phone is turned off,” Jolene said, growing more frantic. “After the party ended last night, she left by herself. I
was planning to talk to her today to tell her not to be too upset.”
“You have some nerve!” David suddenly exploded. “You’re always praising Yve for being sweet and obedient, saying Kathleen is
too stubborn. Now look–Kathleen has given everything to Yve. Are you satisfied now?”
Jolene shot back, saying, “How was I supposed to know she’d do this? I do feel sorry for Yve, but Kathleen is my biological
daughter!”
“What’s the point of saying this now? We need to find her!”
The two began frantically calling Kathleen’s friends, people at her company, and even the gallery staff. However, the answer was
always the same.

They said that Kathleen had been acting strange those past two days, tying up all her loose ends, almost like she was preparing
for her final affairs.
“Preparing her final affairs?” Jolene’s voice trembled. “Don’t say such things!”
Over the phone, the gallery manager, Vince William, said, “Mrs. Sullivan, I’m not making this up. Ms. Sullivan came to the gallery the day before yesterday and inventoried all the pieces, even explaining the history of each painting.
“She said… She said she was going somewhere far away.”
Jolene’s phone clattered to the floor.
“Dear? Dear, what’s wrong?” David steadied her.
“Is–is Kathleen…” Jolene’s face was ashen. “She gave everything to Yve… Is she…”
“Don’t jump to conclusions!” David cut in, but his voice was shaking. “Let’s head to the Liddells‘ residence now! She was there
last night,
maybe…”
