Chapter 10
No matter how long had passed, he stayed by Catalina’s side, not allowing anyone to come near.
He didn’t eat or sleep, he just kept talking to Catalina, even though she wouldn’t respond to him.
Three years later, it seemed like he had a lot to say. Catalina’s attending physician couldn’t bear it and took the initia- tive to find Mateo.
“Mr. Naillon, it’s no use for you to keep watching over Ms. Higgin like this. I can see that she was living in great pain. Let her rest in peace.”
Mateo smiled slightly, yes, it seemed like every moment with him was painful.
Thinking of this, his tears couldn’t stop falling. “Why wouldn’t she tell me about her illness?”
The doctor hesitated, “Ms. Higgin chose to stop treatment voluntarily, and she asked me not to tell anyone.”
“When I told her she only had a few days left to live, what I saw on her face was relief.”
“Perhaps at this moment, she really did smile at the other end of the world.”
When it came to smiles, Mateo only then read how long it had been since he had seen her smile.
Mateo chuckled lightly, it turned out she had already planned to leave, she was unwilling to stay even for one more day.
In her mind flashed the moment when they met, when she was innocent and pure, full of happiness.
However, all of this was because of him. At the time when she loved him the most, she personally suffocated all of her love for him.
He dared not think further, nor did he have the courage to continue thinking.
No matter how many times he repented in front of Catalina’s body, she would not forgive him.
At that moment, the sound of high heels clicking could be heard coming from beside me.
It was Valerie who knew that Mateo hadn’t returned for two days in order to protect Catalina, so she came herself.
“Mateo, why haven’t you come back for two days? I’ve been missing you so much these past two days.”
Before she arrived, she already knew about Catalina’s death, but she showed no emotion, not even a hint of joy.
She took Mateo’s arm and said softly, “Mateo, have you missed me?”
“Catalina’s death is not your fault either. Don’t blame yourself. Come home with me, okay?”

Mateo had a blank expression on his face, but he didn’t want to respond.
Seeing that he was completely still, Valerie also became a little impatient. “Catalina is just an assistant, why do you need to personally stay here? I heard he even has a father squatting in jail? Just give him some money when the time
comes.”
With a hint of sarcasm in her tone, Mateo immediately turned cold.
“What? Are you happy that she died?”
This was the first time Mateo had acted this way towards her, and Valerie was clearly a bit flustered.
“I didn’t mean that, I just wanted you to spend more time with me.”
It was clear that Mateo’s face didn’t look good, so Valerie didn’t dare to say anything more.
“Matteo, I went to buy you some food, you wait for me.’

After she finished speaking, she grabbed her bag and left. Mateo didn’t want to say much to her either.
Mateo started to get visibly annoyed until his assistant walked in with a bouquet of roses.
“What did you bring the flowers for?”
The assistant hesitated for a moment and whispered, “It was Ms. Morozov who asked me to buy it. She said to call her when I arrived, and she would come out to get it. But I couldn’t reach her on the phone, so I just came in direct- ly…”

Mateo was slightly taken aback, “What does she want the money for?”
“She said she wanted to soak in a rose milk bath…”
As soon as those words were spoken, Mateo’s face looked as if it had been slapped.
Didn’t she say she hated roses? Why would she still use roses for a bath?
Thinking of this, he remembered the way Catalina was humiliated at the banquet that day, and his heart ached as if it had been twisted.
Did Catalina really say all that? Were the roses and cake both arranged by Valerie as she requested?
At that moment, Valerie had just come back from outside and was taken aback when she saw the rose on the table. She then coldly met Mateo’s gaze.
“Didn’t you say you hated roses the most?”
“Mateo, listen to me explain…”
“So, that day at the banquet, were you deliberately making things difficult for Catalina?”
