“But this surprise appointment is blatant! You’ve been here five years, your skills are obvious. He just handed your position to someone else!”
I nodded absently.
I planned to leave anyway; Calista’s arrival merely clarified my position in Rick’s heart.
Gathering my files and resignation letter, I knocked on Rick’s office door.
“Come in.” His voice was cold.
I placed everything on his desk-my resignation and the handover documents.

I neatly stacked the files on his desk.
Calmly, I said, “It’s not anger. I’m resigning.”

I studied jewelry design in college, but for Rick, I pursued a double major.
I worked tirelessly to keep pace with him, but apparently, my efforts mean nothing.
Rick looked down at me condescendingly.”Don’t you know your limitations? I’ve placed you under Calista. Learn from her.”
I laughed.”My time is valuable. I won’t waste it on things I dislike.”
“Fine! Leave! Let’s see which company will hire you!” He stood, his eyes burning with fury.
I turned and walked out.
