My parents were heartbroken.
My father said, “Serves you right. You needed to experience heartbreak to appreciate how much we protected you.”
But I saw the tension in his hands, the anger simmering beneath his surface.
He wanted to beat Rick senseless.
My mother hugged me. “Forget that depressing story. It’s just a diamond necklace. I’ll buy you several; you can wear a different one every day.”
My sadness dissipated. I slept soundly.
The next day, my phone was flooded with missed calls from an unknown number.
I sleep with airplane mode on. The 99+ missed calls and messages were relentless.
The phone rang; I hesitantly answered. The caller seemed persistent.
“Hello?” I asked.
A familiar voice.”Daisy, what’s going on? You moved out? Where are you?”
“Calista forgave you. I don’t need an apology. Just come back to work; I’ll make you my assistant!”
I scoffed.”Did you read my message yesterday? If congratulations overwhelmed you, let me say it again.”
Rick gasped. I continued, “We’re over.”
“Is that clear enough for you?”
Before he could respond, I hung up, blocking the number.
Even my wolf was annoyed.”It’s morning; Rick’s ruining our good mood.”
“Annoying.”
