John’s face turned red, his eyes bloodshot, and his expression menacing.
I used to be scared when he got mad. Now, all I could think of was one phrase-all bark, no bite.
No leverage at all, yet he still wanted to take advantage.
I let out a cold laugh. “Because you’re a ghost in the system. Because you cheated.”
He stared at me, then suddenly chuckled. “When did I cheat? I just spent the night with a buddy.
“We didn’t do anything!”
Our eyes locked. I clearly saw the smugness in him.
“Wennie, if I were you, I’d be throwing myself into my husband’s arms, apologizing, and swearing it was a one-time mistake.
“You do that, and I’ll forgive you. I’ll stay away from Nancy.”
I pressed my lips together, silent.
His shamelessness stunned me. The truth was, I didn’t have solid proof. Even if I erased his identity record, he’d still find ways to cling to me.
Just as I was about to speak, someone stepped in front of me.
“Proof of cheating? Does this count?”
Harvey pulled out his phone and played a video-John and Nancy kissing in a booth.
He smirked. “Kiss like that, and you’re still just ‘close friends”?”
Nancy screamed, “Who are you? What gives you the right to record us?!”
John went pale. The arrogance vanished, replaced by a fawning smile.
He grabbed Nancy and covered her mouth.
“Uncle Harvey, you’re here too? I’m fine. Sorry you had to make the trip.”
“I know you’re fine. I was the one who told Wennie you weren’t dead.”
John’s face twisted, but he still forced a smile. “Really? I messed up and scared Wennie. I’m here today to apologize. This won’t happen again.”
Harvey’s expression didn’t change. He bent down, picked up the divorce papers, pulled out a pen, and handed both to

John.
“Sign it.”
John blinked. “Uncle Harvey?”
“We’re not blood-related. Don’t call me that.
“Sign it. Otherwise, the Sullivan family won’t help you.”
That hit him. Panic flashed across his face.
He didn’t argue about property anymore and just signed the last page as fast as he could.
I breathed out, grabbed the papers, and stuffed them into my bag.
I was about to say thank you when I met Harvey’s gaze.
“Wennie, I’ll go with you to restore his identity record. Then we’ll get the divorce certificate.”
I blinked, surprised, and almost said no.
“Don’t rush to decline. What if he refuses again when I’m not there?”
I thought for a moment. “Alright.”
Then I saw off the guests.
Nancy refused to leave, insisting on staying with John.
I didn’t care. I got in Harvey’s car and went to the county clerk’s office.
The staff there smiled when they saw me. “Here today?”
“I found John. I’m here to restore his record.”
“I knew you’d find him. Congrats!”
I nodded and said nothing more.
As we were leaving, John called out to me.
“Wennie, I really do love you.
“That day at Nancy’s place, I was drunk. I thought she was you…”
I turned my head, my voice cold. “Cut the crap.”
