Chapter 9

Cicely’s POV

Once I brought my daughter to the lab with me, someone quickly filled me in on what happened to the Hacketts, the Fergusons, and the Lamonts.

Back then, the Hacketts and the Fergusons had received certain instructions to secretly support Sylvan.

But all they did was simply invest in his company and provide some resources.

As a result, Sylvan gradually lost his sense of purpose.

Those two families had their core projects taken back, which dealt a massive blow to their foundations.

As for the Lamonts, after what happened, no other family dared to have a business partnership with them anymore.

The family patriarch, in a desperate attempt to cut losses, kicked Mitzi out of the clan completely.

They ended up selling off most of their assets just to barely keep the family alive.

After I left, the Armitage Group quickly collapsed and was forced into bankruptcy and liquidation.

Holding Jethro, Sylvan went to Mitzi hoping she would take them in. But she quickly had the two thrown out.

In total despair, he jumped off the Lamonts’ company building with his son in his arms.

But what no one expected was how unmoved Mitzi was even then.

She simply had their bodies sent straight to the crematorium. No one even handled the funeral arrangements. She just let the crematorium deal with Sylvan’s and Jethro’s ashes however they pleased.

Meanwhile, my daughter followed me around the lab, wide-eyed and curious.

‘Is this where you work, Mom?” she asked.

gently patted her head, smiling with affection. “Yep. From now on, sweetie, you’ll be living here with me. This place has the best educational resources. The only downside is… It’s not easy to Jo outside.”

‘As long as I get to be with you, Mom, I’m happy,” she replied, smiling sweetly.

Suddenly, someone chuckled behind us. “Dr. Baxter, Estelle doesn’t even have a dad-how can hat be? You know what that song says, ‘A kid without a dad is like a blade of grass.’ I think I’d be he perfect candidate to be her dad!”

My ever-persistent apprentice from the lab popped up beside me, grinning from ear to ear. His face pretty much screamed his not-so-pure intentions toward me.

‘Get lost,” I hissed, rolling my eyes at him.

But he wasn’t fazed at all; he gently took my daughter’s hand.

He looked at me with a sheepish chuckle. “Well, this isn’t up to you, Dr. Baxter.”

your dad?”

He turned to my daughter, asking, “What do you say, sweetie? Want me to be “But when my dad found me a new mom, she said she’d be nice to me too. But then.., changed,” Estelle recalled, her eyes turning red.

she

“You mean that two-faced witch? Mitzi?” Emmerich asked with contempt. “I remember her. She used to try sucking up to me, even tried to climb into my bed. But I could tell she was trash, so I cussed her out and kicked her away. She ended up becoming a lackey for my younger brother.”

“Someone like her? She’s nowhere near my level,” he said disapprovingly.

Estelle’s POV

“H-Huh?” My mouth twitched slightly.

“So… Dad’s new wife is the woman of this guy’s little brother?’.

My brows furrowed slightly as I tried to process it.

“And this guy… He’s Mom’s apprentice? And now, he’s saying he wants to become my dad?’

I blinked as I stared at Mom. ‘So then… What kind of person is my mom, exactly?’

This whole web of relationships was a total mess!

But one thing was clear-Mom was incredible!
