Sharon’s face drained of color.
Lynne and Hyman looked equally stricken.

Alejandro’s expression was as cold as ice, his gaze piercing Concetta. “Is it really so hard to apologize, Concetta? You’re even dragging a child into this to back you up?”
Concetta didn’t flinch, meeting his stare head-on.”So, tell me, what exactly is my crime? For loving my children too much? Or for not stopping my husband when he brought his mistress into our home and let her wear my pajamas?”
Alejandro’s eyes flashed with disappointment. “When did you become so confrontational?”
A sad, almost pitying smile flickered across Concetta’s face.
She thought, “Confrontational?
“So that’s how he sees me.
“If I were the one allergic, would Alejandro even spare me a glance?
“No, he wouldn’t.
“He calls me confrontational because the person he’s protecting isn’t me.”
Concetta was utterly exhausted.
Her lashes trembled as she lowered her gaze.”Alejandro, let’s get a divorce.”
A piercing scream shattered the moment, echoing from the end of the corridor.
A woman in a hospital gown, hair wild and disheveled, charged toward them, brandishing a fruit knife.
“You cheating scoundrels! If I’m going down, you’re all coming with me! Die! Let’s go to hell together!”
The woman’s fury was unstoppable, her knife slashing toward the crowd.
The corridor erupted in chaos, patients and families screaming as they scattered.
Sharon’s face went ashen, her voice a terrified cry.”Alec!”
Alejandro instinctively shielded Sharon and the children behind him.
In the frenzy, Concetta was shoved into the woman’s path, tumbling to the floor with nowhere to escape.
“Alejandro!” she cried out, her voice breaking with desperation.
But what she saw was Alejandro tightening his arms around Sharon, his eyes focused only on protecting her.
Tears welled in Concetta’s beautiful eyes, her vision blurring red at the edges.
Even in a life-or-death moment, she was the first to be abandoned.
Alejandro hesitated, reaching for her.”Concetta!”
“Mom!” Hyman shouted.
“Dad, don’t go! It’s too dangerous!” Lynne screamed.
The crazed woman steadied herself against the wall, raising the knife toward Concetta with a maniacal laugh.”Die!”
Concetta closed her eyes, despair washing over her.
A scalding tear rolled down her cheek.
She thought bitterly, “If there’s a next life, I don’t want to be anyone’s wife or mother.
“Just let me be myself, for once.”
Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed through the hallway.
A cool, woody scent brushed past her face, a warm presence enveloping her with an inexplicable sense of safety.

The woman’s furious shrieks echoed, followed by the sound of a blade tearing through fabric, but the expected pain never came.
Concetta opened her eyes, bewildered.
A tall, unfamiliar figure stood before her, bare-handedly gripping the knife’s blade.
The man’s profile was striking-sharp jawline, deep-set eyes, and standing nearly 6’3″. His commanding presence was softened by gold-rimmed glasses, lending him an air of refined warmth.
Blood seeped through his white shirt’s cuff.
Yet he seemed unfazed by the pain, pinning the woman to the ground with one hand.
Nearby, Bethany was surrounded by a group of bodyguards. Seeing that man, she yelled frantically, “Uncle Lowell!”
Lowell Tate glanced back, his gray eyes glinting with a half-smile behind his glasses.
Concetta was stunned, and a wave of dizziness overtook her.
The next second, she felt an arm sweep around her, lifting her effortlessly into a warm chest.
Gazing at her pale, delicate face, he smirked.”Fainting already, you little ingrate?”
Alejandro, watching them from afar, felt a sudden surge of irritation.
“Has she forgotten she’s a married woman?” he thought.
