Counting down the days, the ones waiting for Celeste’s divorce weren’t just Matthias and Caleb, but Beck was as well.
So, besides Matthias, Beck also knew that Thursday was the day Celeste and Trevor were supposed to finalize their divorce.
He had been on business trips out of town frequently. But this time, he specifically rushed back at dawn on Thursday.
After a few hours of rest at home, around 10 in the morning after he handled some matters, Beck ultimately couldn’t suppress the urge to call Miles. 1
“I’ve been really busy lately, and it’s been a while since I last had a meal with you and Trevor. Want to grab lunch together today?”
Miles replied, “I’m free, but Trevor won’t be able to make it. He went abroad on a business trip a few days ago and still hasn’t returned.” 3
Beck’s heart tightened. “Trevor… went on a business trip?”
So that means they couldn’t finalize the divorce today?
He hadn’t been in touch with Trevor or Wynn much recently. Calling Miles was actually his way of probing into the divorce situation. 1

Miles wasn’t paying close attention to the divorce anymore and honestly hadn’t realized their cooling–off period had already ended.
He answered casually, “No idea. You know how this time of year is–he’s always swamped with business overseas. Who knows how long he’ll be gone this time?”
Beck lowered his gaze and said nothing more.
After hanging up, he looked at Celeste’s contact info on his phone. He had originally thought he’d get the chance to call her today.

Friday afternoon, while Celeste was working, she received a call from Jordyn.
She said that school was officially out for summer, and since Trevor wasn’t home, she wanted to go stay with her.‘
Celeste refused.
Based on what Trevor had told her during their last call, he had already been away for several days at that point. She thought he’d be back soon.
But now, nearly a week later, he still hadn’t returned.

On Wednesday, she called Celeste again. “Mom, Dad’s been away on his trip for so long, and I don’t like staying home all by myself. Can I stay with you?”
Hearing her lonely little voice, Celeste’s grip on her phone lightened.
After a moment, she finally replied, “I’ll be home after work. Go wait at your granny’s place.”
Hearing that Celeste was finally free, Jordyn immediately brightened and happily packed up to go to the Rodriguez residence.
Naturally, the Rodriguez family was aware that Trevor’s business trip had caused the divorce to be delayed again.
That night, after Jordyn arrived and they were having dinner, Betty couldn’t help asking, “Jordyn, do you know when your father is coming back?”

While eating, she answered honestly, “Dad said it’s still uncertain. But when I talked to him on the phone yesterday, he said he probably won’t make it back in time for my birthday.” 3
