He couldn’t even bring himself to sit. His hands were shoved into his pockets, his jaw tight, his chest heavy as he stared outside of his office window.
His mother sat on the sofa across the room, Jullian was sitting close to her arms folded as he kept glancing from their mother to him
“When I saw her at the company, I was shocked,” his mom finally said, breaking the silence that had hung in the air since they entered his office. “But after listening to her, I became suspicious.”
Alex didn’t turn around, didn’t look at her, but every word was sinking into him
“She didn’t recognize me at first,” his mom continued, her voice steady, “not even a little. She didn’t know you owned this company either. Probably because of the name change. She came in saying her brother had secured her an interview. She said she just moved to the country and the very next day, she was here for the interview.”
Alex’s heart twisted. That sounded like Mia walking into a place with nothing but determination, trying to build something new for herself. Alone.
His mom paused for a moment, then added, “When she realized who I was… when she found out who owns this company… I saw fear in her eyes. And not just any fear. It was the kind that makes a person look like they want to disappear. She denied the boy being yours, of course. But something in me told me she was lying. And that fear I saw,it was enough to make me watch her, to stalk her, because I could tell that at any moment, if she felt cornered, she would
run.”
Jullian leaned forward in his chair, resting his elbows on his knees, his face serious now.
“And I was right,” their mother said softly.
Alex’s chest squeezed tighter. His knuckles ached from clenching his fists so hard in his pockets.
“Anyway,” his mom went on, “the moment I saw the boy, I knew. I knew immediately that he was yours. But I still went ahead and ran a DNA test, so I’ll have the proof ready for in
you case you had doubts.”
Finally, Alex turned to face his mother, but his expression was unreadable.
Inside, though, he was burning.
He had no idea what to say, no idea what to even think.

Chapter 245

He feels like a powerless idiot. A man who had failed the one woman who once gave him her
heart.
He couldn’t even protect his woman.
He believed every lie his father had planted. The neighbors‘ whispers, the forged letter, every false little seed Charles Blackwell had sown….Alex swallowed it all.
And why? Because he had already convinced himself that Mia wanted to hurt him back. That she wanted to get even.
That was what relationships meant to him back then. I hurt you, you hurt me. I cheat, you cheat. I betray, you betray.
A sick, endless cycle.
But Mia had never been like that. She wasn’t built for games, for revenge, for schemes. And he had been too stupid to remember that about her.
“God, I feel so sorry for her,” Jullian muttered.
“Poor girl,” their mother whispered, shaking her head. “She must have been through hell, raising that child alone.”
Alex’s throat tightened. His chest ached so badly he had to breathe in deeply, slowly, just to keep it together.
He turned his eyes toward his mom. “She was the one who told you about the trap Charles set up?”
His mother nodded.
“She told me she had a dream… about Charles kidnapping me. That after giving birth, she was in a coma for days. When she woke up, she started feeling strange. She said she dreams about her family often, and those dreams… they come true. Like visions. She said it only happens with people she’s deeply connected to.”
Alex frowned, confused. His mother’s words sounded insane.
“I guess it’s because I’m Aiden’s grandmother,” she continued softly. “Family to her son. That’s why I’m connected to her, why she saw me in that vision. She was scared and conflicted about telling me, but I believed her immediately. That’s why I came to you, asked you to look into Charles.”
The room went quiet.
Alex’s chest rose and fell as he tried to process all of it.

Finally, Jullian broke the silence. “Do you still think she’s a spy?”

Alex’s flicked to his brother, then back to his mom. His voice was low when he answered. “I don’t know. I have to look into it. I can’t just assume anything… since… uh.. it’s her”
His mother stood and walked toward him. She stopped in front of him, her eyes warm and steady.
“We can’t hurt her anymore, Alex,” she said gently. “She’s been through enough.”
Alex held her gaze. The words cut deeper than she probably knew.
“I agree with Mom,” Jullian added quietly.
And Alex… he wished there was something, anything he could do to erase all of it. To undo the pain, the betrayal, the years Mia spent alone because of him, because of his family.
Maybe it was too late to fix things with Mia.
But with his son… with Aiden… maybe there was still a chance.
“I want to get to know my son,” Alex finally said.
The words felt strange on his tongue, like he was admitting something he never thought he’d want. But it was true.
“That’s the next thing, I guess,” Jullian replied, a teasing smile tugging at his lips. “I just… I can’t picture you with children. You’ve always hated them.”
The mood lightened immediately.
Alex shot him a look. “I don’t hate them-” He paused, frowning as he tried to find the right words. “I just ” But nothing came. He had no words.
His mother smiled, her eyes softening as she looked at him.
And without even realizing it, Alex smiled back. A small, rare smile.
“I miss that smile, baby,” she whispered, reaching up to touch his cheek. Her hand was warm against his skin. “You’ll be a great dad, Alexander.”
Alex stares at her, his throat tight. He nodded. “Thank
you, Mom.”
“You’re welcome, handsome,” she teased, her eyes shining.
Alex winked at her, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
She playfully smacked his arm, and for a moment, the heavy mood lifted.
“So,” Jullian said, sitting up straighter, “what’s the plan?”
Their mother clasped her hands together, her eyes bright with excitement. “I want to be in his life so badly, Alex. From the little video I saw of him… he’s so adorable, I could melt. I want to hold him. I want to buy him anything money can buy. I want him to call me grandmother. I would give anything for that.”
Alex stared at her, his chest tightening again. His mother had always adored children. She had always longed for a grandchild to spoil, to love. And now, she finally had one.
“You stalked him, Mom,” Alex said lightly, raising an eyebrow.
“Stop saying it like that!” she scolded, swatting the air. “I wasn’t stalking. I was just watching him. An innocent watch.” She turned away, flustered, and went to sit back down.
Alex rolled his eyes, but a small smile tugged at his lips.
“I’m going to start by calling her,” he said at last, his voice casual, though his heart hammered inside his chest. “I need to talk to her.”
“Good idea,” his mom said immediately.
“Mom,” Alex called, trying to keep his voice steady even though his palms were already sweating, “do you have her number?”
