Chapter 1039
Halsey nodded and said casually, “That’s good. Let Sierra rest and recover for a while.”
Halsey’s nonchalant tone made Zada frown. Thinking back to what Sierra had told her only made her more upset. “Do you have some kind of misunderstanding about Sierra?”
Halsey tilted her head. “Didn’t she already tell you everything that happened last night?”
“Yeah, she did,” Zada replied quickly. “She went to your room to find you, but you weren’t there. That was when she happened to see your fiancé. It was just a coincidence. You don’t really think Sierra was trying to seduce him, do you?”
“She knows better than anyone whether she tried or not,” Halsey said flatly.
“How can you even think that? Sierra may not come from money, but she’s got a great character. She even stepped in and saved me–hardly any girls would’ve had that kind of courage. Please don’t misunderstand her!”
Halsey shook her head. “It feels like Sierra has brainwashed you.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Zada shot back. “Honestly, you’re being too small–minded. I admit your fiancé is impressive, but we’re not throwing ourselves at him. Besides, your fiancé hit Sierra with a bottle without asking questions, and that sent her straight to the hospital. She hasn’t even blamed you for it! I think we should just let it go and stay friends like before.”
Halsey’s eyes narrowed. “Sierra still wants to be friends with me?”
Zada grabbed Halsey’s hand.
“Of course she does! She barely has any friends, just you and me. You’ve been so cold to her that it really hurt her feelings. She even cried over it. We shouldn’t let a guy ruin our friendship. Can’t we just stay
friends?”
Zada’s eyes were burning with hope, full of desperate pleading.
But Halsey calmly slipped her hand out of Zada’s grasp. “Sorry, I can’t do that.”
Zada froze. “Halsey!”
“Zada, you’re too naïve. You don’t really know what kind of person Sierra is. You’d be better off keeping your distance from her.”
Zada shot to her feet. “How can you say that about Sierra?”
“Then think about this,” Halsey said evenly. “Why did those guys try to corner you that night? And why did Sierra just happen to show up right then? I don’t want you to be digging your own grave and thanking her for the shovel.”

Zada’s eyes widened in shock. “You’re terrifying! You’re so obsessed with your fiancé that you think every girl is out to steal him, and now you’re slandering Sierra? I was so wrong about you.”
Halsey didn’t answer.
She knew Zada had already been completely pulled in by Sierra, but she hadn’t expected it to be this deep. Zada trusted Sierra completely and treated her like a true friend.
All Halsey could do was respect other people’s choices. After all, she had only come to Anteoch University for further studies.
She said calmly, “I’ve said all I can. If you don’t believe me, that’s your choice.”
Zada gave a cold reply. “I used to think of you as a friend, but you’re not someone worth having as one.”
She snatched a pencil off the desk and snapped it in half with a sharp crack.
“We’re done!”
She turned and stormed out.
Halsey stared at the broken pencil on the floor, her brows furrowing. Zada had been her very first friend
at Anteoch University. To say she wasn’t hurt would’ve been a lie.
She bent down, picked up the pencil, then pulled out her phone and sent a message to Shaun.
