Two weeks felt like two fucking decades when I was away from her. Dad had me over see the new project and I didn’t argue against it. I needed air, to recollect myself before I drowned in this woman.
But Fuck me.
It didn’t do shit. If anything, it felt even worse. Every Night I had to fight the urge to call her, drop a text and that was the first time I’ve ever felt like doing such a thing.
I’ve been with women. But it was only for sex. I fell in love with Leah, and I want to marry her but even she doesn’t make my heart beat the way Athena does.
It’s chaotic, takes over your mind and brings you to your fucking knees. I’ve had tabs on her, calling Ryan every fucking second. Even he must notice I’m acting out of character.
He told me she was in the hospital, but she didn’t and that makes me mad. Why the hell is she keeping things from me? I was already on edge because of her trauma, but I had to leave. I needed a clear head but the moment I heard she was in the hospital, I wrapped up the meetings and came back home.
So here I stand watching her fidget and its taking every fiber of my being not to kiss those lips. Dig my nails into her curves as i hold her all night long.
Fuck! What is happening to me?
I drop my gaze towards her and watch Athena as she lowers her gaze, her fingers tightening around the blanket like it’s the only thing keeping her grounded.
I slip off my watch and place it on the dresser, my movements slow as I study her. Her posture is tense, like she’s bracing for something, but she’s trying so damn hard to act normal.
Luca is yet to send me the results of why she was at the hospital. But if she could tell me right now, I’d
know how to help her.
“Athena,” I say her name carefully, testing the waters.
She looks up at me, her dark eyes wide, too guarded.
“You sure there’s nothing you want to tell me?”
Her lips part, hesitation flickering across her face before she shakes her head. “No, nothing.”
I nod.
I know she won’t say it and we will just waste time going back and forth.

“Come here.” I command and she looks at me.
She bites her bottom lip and slowly walks towards me.
A growl escapes me when I see the see shorts she’s wearing.
“What is it?” She asks but I don’t respond, instead, I pull her towards me and hug her.
Fuck I missed her scent.
Her body melts into mine for a second, just a second, before she stiffens again. But I don’t let go. I can’t.
I bury my face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent like it’s the only thing keeping me sane.
Two fucking weeks, and it still wasn’t enough to get her out of my system. If anything, it made it worse.
Athena swallows hard, her hands hovering near my chest like she doesn’t know what to do with them.”
Alex…” Her voice is barely above a whisper, uncertain.
“Don’t.” My voice is rough, strained. “No words, Athena. Just let me hold you.”
She doesn’t fight me. She doesn’t pull away. But she doesn’t relax, either.
And that pisses me off.
I pull back just enough to look at her, my fingers still gripping her waist.
Her dark eyes meet mine, searching, hesitating.
I fucking hate how she looks at me with a questioning gaze, like she just can’t soak in the moment
without expecting the worst.
“Go to sleep.” I pull away and walk out of the room, needing to clear my head.
I slam the door behind me and walk to my home office.
I’m fucking tired but I’d rather burry myself in work than have to deal with that look in her eyes.
I always thought she was always reserved but I know better. I’ve seen how she’s free around Noah. Fuck, she even laughs at his stupid jokes.
Zayan’s face comes to mind and I decide to send Luca a text

Luca: [Playing dumb doesn’t suit you.]

Luca: [You seriously don’t know do you? Your wife didn’t tell you?]
My heart stops just at the mention of Athena.
Me: [Tell me what?]
Luca: [I found her hospital file but didn’t bother sending it because I assumed by now you already knew.]
Me: [Knew what?]
My breathing is laboured and my heart is pumping so wildly I can hear it. I hover my fingers on the screen as I wait for Luca to respond.
The three little dots shows he’s typing but it feels like he’s typing at a snails pace.
