“You don’t need to worry about it. I have my people working on it.” I say to Leah as she watches me.
“But-”
“Let’s talk later.” I cut her off.
Unable to hold a longer conversation. My mind is going wild, and honestly, anything that has to do with Athena seems to drive me insane.
Pregnant.
The word echoes in my head on a fucking loop.
I wouldn’t ask how because I know what we’ve been doing the Past weeks. I however didn’t think of the outcome.
“Medical Director” is written on the door as I push it open.
Many may expect an old man sitting behind that desk but it isn’t.
He’s a genius and even though he was born in old money, he still deserves the position.
“Look who decided to stop by.” Ian teases and I ignore him, placing myself in the seat opposite him.
The bastard is the best in the medical field and genuinely one of the few I actually respect.
“You know why I’m here.” I get straight to the point, having no time for pleasantries.
Ian Quinn watches me before pulling out a file and sliding it towards me.
I sigh as the text I received from Luca flashes before me. I didn’t sleep a wink last night, stayed all night staring at the woman who could possibly be carrying my child and I don’t know how to feel about that.
What do you do when the woman you married for convenience not only starts taking up your mind but also carries your child?
A heavy silence settles between us as I stare at the papers in front of me. The confirmation is right there, in black and white. There’s no denying it.
Athena is carrying my child.
I close the file, my fingers gripping the edge as I try to process the weight of it. I don’t know what the hell I’m feeling. Panic? Shock? Something dangerously close to fucking excitement?
No. I can’t afford to feel that.

Ian leans back in his chair, watching me with that knowing smirk of his. He pushes his glasses toward his nose before speaking,
“You look like someone just punched you in the face.”
I exhale sharply, running a hand down my face. “Might as well have.”
He chuckles, shaking his head. “So, what’s the plan?”
Plan? Fuck if I know.
“We didn’t plan for this.” I bite out and Ian chuckles.
“You had unprotected sex, Alex. What did you expect?”
I push the file back toward him and lean back, my jaw clenching as I ignore his stupid question. “Who
else knows?”
His smirk fades slightly. “Just me, Luca, and the doctor who handled her tests.”
“I don’t even need to ask, do I?” I stand.
“No one else will know.” He says, “But Bring her in as soon as possible. I noticed she still has traumatic moments, so I need to check on a few things.”
I nod.
But my mind can’t help but wonder, why the hell didn’t she tell me?
Could it be?….
Oh, she wouldn’t, would she?
Fuck!
I grab the file and rush out of the hospital.
The drive back feels like a blur, my grip on the steering wheel tightening with every passing second. My mind races, replaying every interaction with Athena over the past few weeks.
She knew.
She fucking knew.
And she didn’t tell me.
The possibility that she might have been planning to keep this from me fuels the fire already burning in my chest. Would she have left? Disappeared before I even found out?

No.
I won’t let that happen.
A sudden urge of protection fills my chest and it feels foreign. The last time I felt this strong urge was when I saw Athena on that damn horse and I swallowed it down but this time, it hits me full force. I can’t get rid of it no matter how hard I try.
By the time I pull up to the house, I’m on edge, my body practically vibrating with frustration. I don’t bother turning off the car as I rush in. When I push open the door, my voice echoes through the space.
“Athena.”
Silence.
I stalk through the house, searching for her, until I hear the sound of running water from the bathroom. My jaw tightens as I make my way toward the door.
Without hesitation, I push it open.
Athena stands by the sink, a towel in her hands. She gasps, startled, her eyes widening when she sees me.
She’s fucking naked. I swallow as my eyes fall to her flat tummy.
Inside her is a little baby?
Our little baby!
“Alex-”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” My voice is hard, cutting through the space between us.
She stills, her fingers clutching the towel tighter. “Tell you what?”
I step closer, placing the file on the counter beside her. “Don’t play dumb. You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
Her gaze flickers to the file, then back to me. Something flashes in her eyes, fear, hesitation, guilt.
“You went through my medical records?” she asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
“You’re my wife, that shouldn’t be new to you,” I snap. “Answer the question.”
She looks away, her breathing uneven. “I… I was trying to figure things out.”
“Figure things out?” I scoff, running a hand through my hair. “You thought you could keep my child a
secret from me? Were you planning to leave?”
Her silence is all the answer I need.

My blood runs cold.
I grab her chin, forcing her to look at me.
“You were, weren’t you?”
Her eyes glisten, but she doesn’t answer.
I take a step back, my hands clenched into fists. “You’re not going anywhere, Athena. Do you hear me?”
Tears roll down her face and my heart clenches,
“I’m sorry…. I know you wanted to marry Leah. I didn’t mean for-”
She doesn’t get to finish her sentence when I pull her towards me and crash my lips on hers.
