Every word out of Halsey’s mouth hit like a hammer. Sierra’s head was buzzing, and she forgot how to argue back. Maybe she couldn’t argue at all.
People who did shady stuff would always slip up. There were no exceptions.
Halsey had caught the flaw in Sierra’s plan and was now showing it off in front of everyone.
Their classmates crowded closer.
“Sierra, why aren’t you saying anything? How did you even afford such an expensive nightgown?”
“Yeah. Halsey’s not the only one who thinks it’s suspicious. We all do.”
“At first, when you groveled and begged Halsey for forgiveness, we actually felt bad for you. But now, you’re the one who looks guilty.”
Sierra stammered, “I–I didn’t buy the nightgown. Someone gave it to me.”
“Who would give you such an expensive gift?”
Sierra’s eyes darted toward Zada. “You gave it to me. Don’t you remember?”
Zada froze for a second, then it clicked. “Wait… I think I do. Around your birthday a while back, I asked a friend overseas to bring back a dress for you. So that was the one?”
“Exactly! You remember now. With my situation, there’s no way I could’ve bought something like that myself. It was the very first gift I’d ever gotten, so I treated it like a treasure and never wore it. I only put it on at Halsey’s place. But then Halsey misunderstood and even took a picture, thinking I was trying to
seduce her fiancé!”
Just like that, Sierra pushed all the blame back onto Halsey.
Halsey hadn’t expected the dress to actually come from Zada. Still, it didn’t matter. One way or another, she would expose Sierra eventually. Today was just the beginning.
Halsey said calmly to Sierra, “Guess I owe you an apology. But next time, have some boundaries. Don’t do things that make people misunderstand. I mean, why do you think I don’t mistake anyone else, only you?”
Their classmates nodded in agreement.
“Halsey’s always cheerful and generous, and she’s been nothing but kind to her friends. She let you stay at her place out of kindness. The least you can do is respect some boundaries.”
“Yeah, Sierra. You should get up already. You’re making it look like Halsey’s bullying you.”
Sierra bit her tongue. So she was wrong to grovel now?

She rolled her eyes in her head a thousand times, but didn’t dare show it. Either way, she’d lost today.
Halsey stepped forward and held out a hand. “Come on. Get up.”
Sierra stood, forcing a polite smile. “Thanks, Halsey.”
“No need to thank me,” Halsey replied. “We’ve got plenty of time ahead. Let’s just see how things go.”
Sierra dropped the act as well. “You’re right. We’ve got plenty of time.”
Zada, still siding with Sierra, spoke up. “Halsey, let’s be real here. Not every girl is after your fiancé. Sure,
a lot of women like good–looking guys, but you don’t need to treat every woman like an enemy.”
The group perked up.
“Halsey, who is your fiancé?”
“I’m curious, too. Is he really that attractive? Is that why you think women can’t resist him?”
Zada sneered, “A smart woman should know how to hold onto her man instead of constantly guarding him from other women. Isn’t that right, Halsey?”
Halsey smirked. “My fiancé hit Sierra with a shampoo bottle. Picture it—he was in the shower, and she suddenly barged in. Was he just supposed to let her see everything? Guys need to protect themselves too these days. It’s dangerous for them as well.”
Their classmates nodded in sympathy.
“So Halsey’s fiancé hit Sierra out of reflex. That’s actually understandable.”
