Chapter 8
Just then, a middle-aged man I didn’t know suddenly stood up from the guest seats, his face dark as thunder, and strode onto the stage.
He walked straight to Emily and slapped her hard across the face.
“You shameless thing!
“Did I ask you to come to this banquet so you could seduce someone else’s husband and get pregnant with a bastard?”
The man was shaking with rage, pointing at Emily and cursing.
“You’ve humiliated me completely!”
Stunned by the slap, Emily covered her face and cried out, “Dad…”
The whole room gasped.
So this was Emily’s father.
Someone in Gregory’s circle recognized him.
“Isn’t that… Mr. Caleb Watson, the real estate guy? I heard his capital chain broke recently; he’s been looking every- where for investment.”
“So, this was him selling off his daughter?”
“Tsk, what a drama.”
Caleb’s face turned red with fury, and he pointed at Gregory, yelling.
“And you! You liar!
“You tricked my daughter, said you’d mor

And I simply stood quietly in the corner of the stage, watching coldly at the farce I had directed with my own hands.
I pressed the next button on the remote.
On the big screen, the infertility report disappeared.
Replaced by a will-and next to it, a letter from a lawyer.
“This document might be of more interest to everyone here.”
All movement in the hall stopped. Eyes turned toward me, then toward the screen.
“This is the will of the founder of the Lopez Group, Gregory’s grandfather.
“It clearly states that the eldest grandson, Gregory, must produce a child before the age of thirty-five in order to inher- it a 51% controlling stake in the company.
“If not, the shares will be automatically transferred into the family trust, to be managed by professional trustees.
“And Gregory’s thirty-fifth birthday happens to be next month.”
Gregory’s father leapt from his chair, his face instantly pale as paper, when he saw the will.
This trap he had set to protect the family business-he thought it was flawless.
“Gregory, you were desperate for a child not because you loved children.
“But because without one, you and your family would lose the Lopez Group!
