Chapter 10
Empty bottles were scattered around the carpet’s edge, and the endless rain outside amplified Sebastian’s dark mood.
Nobody would expect this usually stone cold business hotshot to let himself completely fall apart on the couch.
His tie was a mess, he looked like total garbage, and only the faint redness around his eyes proved how wasted he’d gotten last night.
This was the first time he’d ever blown off a board meeting.
Since Pierce Corp’s comeback, he’d worked around the clock, obsessed with getting revenge for what happened years ago,
Finally, that wire in his brain that had been stretched way too tight snapped when Mia left.
If she wasn’t there with him, what was the point of everything he’d built?
He felt lost and confused, pressing his right hand hard against his chest until his fingertips went white.
Ever since Mia came back into his life with the Pierce name, the question Sebastian heard most was “Who is she?”
To the nurses, Mia was his sister. To classmates, she was his distant cousin. In his mind, she was the person who saved his life.
She had all these different roles, but the one thing she never got to be was his girlfriend.
“Sebastian, do you love me?”
On his birthday, Mia was a little tipsy, nuzzling her head against his neck and asking in that cute way.
He’d opened his mouth but never answered.
Because he was scared, because of his pathetic pride, he’d convinced himself it wasn’t love–just gratitude.
“I do.” His lips barely moved as he whispered the words that were eight years too late.
“I’m crazy about you.”
But now that he finally understood his own feelings, Mia would never hear them.
The room was so quiet that even his choked sob sounded crystal clear.
When Claire found him, Sebastian was swirling the wine in his glass, trying to numb himself with alcohol.
“Seb, why didn’t you go to work today?”
She scolded him playfully as she took away his glass, acting annoyed but her eyes were full of worry.
She’d searched every room in the house and never expected to find him in Mia’s bedroom.
Claire honestly couldn’t wrap her head around it.
Family background? Mia wasn’t even worthy of carrying her shoes.
Education? Mia was basically illiterate–never even went to college.
Except for that annoyingly pretty face, how could Mia even compare to her?
Why was Sebastian so completely obsessed with her?
No matter how hard Claire had tried to trash Mia’s reputation, Sebastian always kept a place for her in his heart.

Chapter 10
Sebastian stared at his empty palm, about to say something when his stomach suddenly cramped up. Cold sweat broke out all over him.
“Don’t you get it, Seb?” She helped him up, looking heartbroken,
“Mia took the money and ran! She doesn’t give a damn about you! I won’t let you destroy your body over her!”
When her warm tears hit his cold hand, the pain of being abandoned by Mia spread through his entire body.
Almost instinctively, he wrapped his arms around Claire and pulled her close.
The heavy scent of her perfume hit his nose, and for a split second Sebastian got confused, randomly thinking about Mia’s black hair that always smelled like jasmine.
They were so close together that the intimate atmosphere made Claire blush.
“Seb, what are you…”
Her voice got all sweet and soft as she placed her hands on his chest, looking totally vulnerable.
Sebastian stared at her for a moment.
Through his alcohol haze, Claire’s face seemed to overlap with Mia’s for just a second.
Word by word, he asked:
“What about you? Would you marry me?”
