Chapter 12
“You had your squad force feed Mia drinks, thinking you were being slick about it?”
Mr. Whitmore sounded pissed.
“All that trash talk about Mia going around our social circle–that was all your mean girl friends spreading lies, wasn’t it?”
“So what?” Claire rolled her eyes.
“Social climbers like that deserve to get knocked down a peg. My only regret is not using that glass to mess up her basic face!”
Sebastian’s breath caught in his throat.
Mr. Whitmore let out an exhausted sigh.
“Sweetheart, now that Mia’s out of the picture, I could cover for you even if you straight–up murdered someone.”
He glanced around, then suddenly dropped his voice.
“What really matters is you don’t need to play house with Sebastian. The whole point of marrying him is to lowkey take over Pierce Corp from
the inside!”
Claire looked confused.
“Shouldn’t married couples be honest with each other? What’s his becomes mine anyway, so why all the games?”
“Remember what he hired me to dig up?”
Mr. Whitmore’s voice got ice–cold.
“His parents got whacked by the Morrison family. They hacked that private jet and turned his folks into confetti.”
Sebastian felt like he’d been hit by a truck.
“You knew this whole time?” Claire’s jaw dropped. “Then why didn’t you
“Because I helped destroy Pierce Corp in the first place.”
He said it like he was ordering coffee.
tell…”
“The only reason I had the guts to take Sebastian’s case was because the Morrison family was backing me.”
Claire gasped and slapped her hand over her mouth.
“Then why are you letting me marry Sebastian?”
Mr. Whitmore shrugged.
“Who knew the Pierce kid would bounce back this hard? Plus the Morrison family’s been losing steam lately. Can’t put all my chips on one
horse.”
“Since he’s desperate for my help, I’ll just keep him wrapped around my finger,” Mr. Whitmore said coldly.
“Get knocked up ASAP. The Pierce family’s loaded–think about all that money flowing into our pockets.”
After a long pause, Claire barely whispered “okay.”
That tiny word completely shattered Sebastian.

Chapter 12
The truth he’d been obsessing over was nothing but a sick joke.
He automatically reached out beside him–whenever he felt completely screwed, he’d always grab Mia’s hand.
But this time, his hand hit empty air.
The vase crashed to the floor, followed by Mr. Whitmore’s suspicious voice:
“Who’s out there?!”
Sebastian closed his eyes, turned around, and headed downstairs.
He handed the phone to the butler and walked away.
“Tell them I was never here.”
In his dark house, Sebastian leaned against the window, chain–smoking.
He still couldn’t process what he’d just heard from the Whitmores.
Pierce Corp’s collapse had been orchestrated by the Morrison and Whitmore families working together, and he’d been stupid enough to trust Mr. Whitmore to find the truth–even almost married his daughter.
His Mia had never hurt anyone.
It was Claire who’d been pulling strings the whole time, throwing dirt on her reputation and pushing her to the breaking point.
Sebastian’s hands went cold, tears welling up in his eyes.
Mia loved him, and he’d made her compromise over and over until he drove her away.
The Whitmores had destroyed his family, but he’d given all his favoritism and protection to Claire Whitmore.
The cigarette burned down to his fingers.
His skin went red and swollen, almost seared to the bone.
Sebastian stared at it for a long time before feeling the pain, then crushed the butt under his foot.
He finally knew exactly what he wanted.
Whether as his girlfriend or his wife, the only person he’d ever wanted to marry was Mia.
As for those pieces of trash who’d screwed over his family eight years ago, he’d take care of them, then propose to Mia with a clean conscience.
Sebastian steadied himself.
He called Mr. Whitmore, his voice as calm as always:
“Mr. Whitmore, I want to move up the engagement party.”
