Chapter 13
The Pierce Whitmore engagement party was totally over the top.
Crystal champagne towers sparkled everywhere, the red carpet was blood red gorgeous, and crystal vases overflowed with blooming jasmine.
The fairy–tale engagement had all of Manhattan’s elite gossiping about this power couple merger.
Everyone was convinced Sebastian was absolutely whipped for Claire.
But nobody knew that every single detail he’d personally planned for this engagement was stuff Mia had once dreamed about.
Sebastian stood on the penthouse rooftop, watching people toast and schmooze below, but his face showed zero excitement about getting engaged.
He’d make it up to Mia–throw her an even more incredible, more meaningful wedding.
Right now, his main focus was making everyone who’d ever messed with them pay hard.
“Mr. Pierce, we recovered the black box from your parents‘ crash.” His assistant respectfully handed over the copied audio file, then gave him another folder. “Plus all that evidence you wanted me to dig up–everything’s here.”
In the recording, probably because of crazy turbulence, his parents‘ voices kept breaking up.
But no matter how weak their voices got, Sebastian could totally hear their panic.
“We’re losing control! Did the Morrison family pull this shit?!”
“Damn it, every system’s going down!”
“What about Sebastian? He just turned eighteen, how is he gonna…”
The recording cut out when they crashed, leaving nothing but eerie silence, except for his parents‘ last words:
“Sebastian, Mom and Dad love you… you gotta make it through this…”
CRASH!
The recorder smashed on the concrete.
Sebastian looked like he was about to fall over, like some empty shell with his soul torn out.
The Morrison and Whitmore families had totally wrecked what should’ve been his peaceful life.
Meanwhile, at the reception lounge.
Claire walked in arm–in–arm with her dad, rocking a white dress while everyone gushed over how gorgeous she looked.
“So that’s the legal queen everyone’s been talking about–she’s even prettier in person!” a guest whispered admiringly.
“Her and Mr. Pierce are like the perfect power couple!”
“I’m so jealous!” someone else chimed in.
“She’s Pierce Corp’s Chief Legal Officer too. When they team up, they’re unstoppable. Sebastian’s one lucky guy.”
Claire tried to hide her huge smile behind her hand, but her shoulders were totally shaking from trying not to laugh with joy.

Chapter 13
Mr. Whitmore’s eyes crinkled into slits. He fake coughed, pretending to play it cool.
Looked like his master plan was working perfectly.
Using Pierce Corp as a stepping stone, the Whitmore family could finally break into the top political and business circles.
“OMG, there’s Mr. Pierce!”
Following someone’s excited shout, everyone turned to stare at that tall figure walking in.
Sebastian had this ice–cold, elite vibe.
Those eight rough years hadn’t broken his spirit–if anything, he now had that ruthless edge that only powerful people have.
Claire blushed and walked over, trying to link arms with him.
“Seb, I’ve been waiting forever for you!”
But Sebastian kept his hands in his pockets and stepped back, totally dodging her touch.
Claire’s smile froze as her hand hung awkwardly in mid–air.
“Thanks everyone for coming.”
His cold eyes swept across the crowd.
“But I’m gonna have to cut this engagement party short.”
Claire whipped her head around to stare at him.
“Because the Whitmore and Morrison families,”
Sebastian’s lips barely moved, his eyes ice–cold,
“are the ones who murdered my parents.”
The whole place went dead silent. Even could hear a pin drop.
Claire went white as a sheet, standing there in total shock.
“Seb, what… what are you talking about?”
He smirked and hit play.
The huge screen went black and the black box recording started crackling through the speakers.
His parents‘ terrified voices came through crystal clear for everyone to hear.
The truth that had been buried for eight years…
It was finally out, and the crowd totally lost it.
