Chapter 3 Broken
Talia got off halfway and went home.
I was out of it the whole time, only realizing I was at Jericho’s place when my feet sank into the soft carpet.
The place was massive, dripping with luxury.
I let out a sarcastic laugh, thinking about my rundown shared apartment.
It was so cramped I could barely turn over. Even calling it a coffin would be a compliment.
That’s where I lived, eating cheap instant noodles every day, and on my birthday, I just added a few extra veggies.
I cut corners everywhere, as long as I could keep living.
Every penny I saved went straight to Jericho’s medical bills.

Jericho saw how pale I looked and laughed. “You shouldn’t feel so wronged. Trading just three years for a life like this? Not a
loss.”
I kicked off my shoes like a robot and stepped barefoot onto the carpet.
The soft texture made me instinctively pull my foot back.
Jericho pinched his nose, grabbed my shoes, and tossed them into the trash outside the door.
“They’re too dirty. Forget them. I’ll get you new ones, whatever brand you like.”
In that instant, I felt like I was the one tossed out.
I stared at the ground as big tears hit my feet.
An emotion I couldn’t quite name–somewhere between hurt and regret–surged through me.
It felt as if all strength had drained from my body.
Only my eyes kept getting hotter and redder.
I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I sat down on the floor and sobbed like a child.
I cried for the three years I’d been fooled and for the fact that my fiancé was this kind of man.
Jericho’s expression finally softened a little.
He crouched down, wiped my tears, and let out a sigh, about to say something when his phone rang in his pocket.
He looked at me, not really bothered, and picked up.
Talia’s sweet voice came through the line. “Hey, Jericho, I twisted my ankle. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Jericho’s eyes shifted uneasily. “I might-”
“Ah!”
Talia’s voice came again from the phone, sounding like she’d fallen.
Jericho immediately panicked. “I’ll be right there! Don’t move!”
He grabbed his coat off the couch and rushed for the door.
I looked up at him.
I looked
I was sure my eyes were full of hatred.
He frowned. “Don’t look at me like that. Talia’s my secretary. If something happens to her, my whole schedule’s gonna be a/2

mess. If I had something going on with her, it would’ve started back in university, not now.
“If you loved me. you wouldn’t care about this!”
But three years ago, you and she weren’t this close.
How did you expect me to trust you?
The more Jericho tried to explain, the more guilty he seemed.
Jericho-“I said softly.
He was already rushing for the door. “I’ll explain later. Just stay put and don’t go anywhere.”
The door shut, and the silence in the room turned suffocating.
I shook my head.
What I wanted to say was, “Jericho, you don’t need to explain anything.”
I already saw the photo of you and Talia on the coffee table and her stockings on the sofa.
While I was gone these past three years, you already had someone else.
But that’s okay. After finding out you’d deceived me all this time, nothing matters to me anymore.
We were done.
I rose to my feet, every joint aching like it wasn’t mine.
Even so, I opened the door and walked into the freezing wind, barefoot.
Winter nights are so dark and long.
The stones on the road cut my feet open, leaving them bloody and mangled.
But I kept walking, more determined than ever.
I had never wanted to get away from Jericho this badly.
