Chapter 272
It was a day before the anniversary of Alex’s first developed game, and the whole house was buzzing with quiet excitement.
“Dress up baby, we are going out” Alex had said that morning… and then drove them straight to the biggest mall in the city. She had thought maybe he wanted to buy something small for Aiden or maybe get her a dress for the event. But no.
Alex Lowell Blackwell had shut down the entire mall.
Completely.
When Mia realized it, she just stood there for a whole minute–staring at him, at the rows of staff lined up, and at the closed signs on every glass door that led to each store.
“Alex,” she had said, her voice caught somewhere between disbelief and frustration. “You didn’t.”
He had only smiled that devilish, calm smile of his, slipping his hand into hers.
“I did,” he said simply. “You deserve to shop without people staring, and he-” he nodded toward Aiden, who was already bouncing in excitement— “deserves to grab whatever toy he wants without us worrying about chaos.”
Mia had glared at him and said it was unnecessary, but that didn’t change anything. It never did when it came to Alex.
Now, watching Aiden point at literally everything he saw, Mia could only shake her head in amusement.
Her little boy’s joy was infectious.
“Papa, I want that! And that one too!” Aiden squealed, tugging Alex’s hand.
Alex bent down, patient as ever, his deep voice calm as he spoke to his son. “You want the blue one or the red one, champ?”
“Both!” Aiden said, grinning ear to ear.
Mia chuckled softly, her eyes full of affection as she watched the two of them.
Honestly, it still amazed her–how good Alex was with their son. How naturally he had fit into the role of a father, as if he’d been waiting his whole life to do it.
He was so attentive, always listening to Aiden like whatever the boy said was the most important thing in the world.
Even now, Aiden was talking to him, his little hands waving animatedly while Alex nodded along like they were discussing something very serious.
She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she knew Aiden was probably talking about dinosaurs or maybe

superheroes. Still, they looked like two men in deep conversation, and the sight made her heart swell.
What could a four–year–old possibly be saying that had Alex looking so serious?
Mia chuckled softly to herself.
Her gaze softened. Her chest felt warm, so full of emotion she could barely hold it in.
She has never felt this kind of happiness before… It was the kind that makes you want to cry and laugh at the same time.
Sometimes it scared her, how much joy her little family brought her.
She didn’t even know when she started tearing up, but she blinked it away quickly before anyone noticed.
Alex turned slightly and caught her staring. Their eyes met, and even from across the store, that one small glance made her heart skip.
He smiled, just a faint smile, and Mia instantly looked away, cheeks warm.
God, that man.
He always managed to make her blush, even just staring at her.
“Is that what you’re taking?”
The sudden voice beside her made Mia jump a little. She turned to find Alex’s mother standing there, elegant as ever, her eyes narrowed at the dress Mia was holding.
Mia blinked, glancing down at the simple gown in her hand. It wasn’t flashy, not like the ones Alex’s world seemed to adore.
It was just… her….soft, classy, simple and yet the price tag alone had nearly made her faint when she saw it.
She gave Esther a small smile and nodded. “Yes, I was thinking of this one.”
Esther’s brows lifted. “You must be joking,” she said with a little laugh. “Tomorrow is a special day.”
Mia nodded again, unsure what to say. She knew that. It was the anniversary of Alex’s first game, the one that changed his life, that built the entire empire he had today.
Esther leaned closer. “Trust me, dear, you’ll want to look your very best tomorrow. If you knew what tomorrow had in store, you wouldn’t even look twice at that dress.”
Mia frowned a little, confused. “What do you mean?”
“I mean,” Esther said, a teasing smile playing on her lips, “you’re Alex Lowell’s woman. You can’t walk into a major event dressed like a background guest.”
Mia felt her face heat at the words Alex’s woman.

When she glanced back toward Alex and Aiden, she found him already watching her.
She looked away instantly, shy all over again, pretending to fix the strap of the dress on the hanger.
Esther chuckled softly beside her.

“Come with me,” she said, motioning for Mia to follow. “I already sent your measurements days ago. The designer has your dress ready.”
Mia blinked, shocked. “You what?”
Esther gave her that look mothers give their children when they know they’re about to fuss but won’t win. “You’ll thank me later.”
Mia sighed but followed anyway, her curiosity getting the best of her.
They walked through the mall, to a private boutique section where a tall woman stood near a mannequin, working on a dress.
The moment Mia saw it, she froze.
Her throat tightens, the corner of her eyes sting.
It was breathtaking.
Layers of soft fabric with delicate beading that caught the light like tiny stars. It looked like something out of a fairy tale dream……elegant but not loud, grand but still tender.
“That can’t be mine,” Mia whispered, her voice breaking a little.
Esther smiled softly, pride shining in her eyes. “It’s yours.”
“Mrs-” Mia began, her voice cracking again, but Esther cut her off gently.
“I told you, call me Esther.” She hesitated, looking away awkwardly before adding in a rush, “Or, you know… mom.”
Mia blinked, stunned for a second. Then she chuckled softly, wiping at her eyes that were definitely red now.
“You know what,” Esther muttered quickly, clearly embarrassed. “Forget I said that.”
Mia couldn’t help but smile wider.
She was so close to crying….again.
“Do you like it?” Esther asked quietly.
Mia nodded, her voice a whisper. “It’s beautiful.”
Esther smiled, her eyes shining too. “It’s indeed beautiful.”

“Wait till you see what I have in mind for your wedding dress,” the designer suddenly said with a grin looking
at her.
Mia froze. “What?” she squeaked,
Esther waved a hand as if brushing off the comment, pushing a very confused Mia toward the changing room. “Go on, try it. She’ll be designing your wedding dress too.”
“Wait, wait–wedding dress?” Mia said, her heart racing.
“Yes, yes,” Esther said, still ushering her forward with that same knowing smile. “Now go in and change.”
Mia couldn’t even form words anymore. Her heart fluttered wildly inside her chest, a strange mix of shock and joy.
Her cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
A wedding dress?
Was this…
She tried on the dress anyway, her hands trembling as she pulled it over her shoulders. The fabric hugged her perfectly.
When she stepped out, Esther’s hand flew to her mouth.
“Mia,” she whispers “you look so beautiful.”
Mia turned to the mirror…
The reflection staring back at her made her heart ache. She looked radiant-
“Thank you,” she said quietly.
Esther smiled. “Now you’re ready for tomorrow.”
Mia chuckled, still looking at herself in awe. “The way you talk about it, it’s as if something else is happening apart from celebrating a game’s anniversary.”
Esther laughed softly, her expression full of mystery.
“We shall see,” she said.
