Chapter 4
The voice on the other end of the phone rose sharply, almost exploding into my ears with anger.
“Who has the audacity to cancel your exclusive privileges?!”
I shrugged, my tone light as I added fuel to the fire. “Well, not only that, she’s demanding five hundred thousand dollars in medical fees just because I bumped into her.”
“Five hundred thousand?!” My captain let out an incredulous laugh, clearly infuriated. “Which airport are you at right now?”
I gave him the name of the airport. He shot back a curt “Wait there,” before abruptly ending the call.
Aubrie, who had been watching me hang up, immediately sneered with a mocking tone. “What, couldn’t find backup? Did they back off as soon as they heard about the five hundred thousand?”
She deliberately raised her voice, ensuring everyone nearby could hear. “You can’t even come up with five hundred thousand dollars, and you think you’re fit to marry into the Tanke family? That’s laughable!”
Leo’s gaze toward me grew even colder, as if merely looking at me was enough to taint his eyes.
Standing nearby, Mr. Yellen noticed Leo’s displeasure and, fearing I might continue to provoke the Tanke family, quickly stepped forward to show his loyalty.
He bowed repeatedly and smiled obsequiously at Leo. “Mr. Tanke, this incident is partly the airport’s fault as well!”
“But don’t worry, I’ll immediately blacklist her from this airport. She won’t be allowed to set foot here ever—”
Before he could finish his statement, an ear-piercing ringtone suddenly interrupted him.
Startled, Mr. Yellen apologized profusely while rushing to the side to answer the call. “Hello? Mr. Avery? Yes, yes, go ahead—”
The next moment, his expression froze in place, and even the hand holding the phone began to tremble.
Out of the corner of his eye, he kept glancing nervously in my direction.
Of course, I knew what the call was about. My captain had always valued me highly, protecting me from any grievances within the team. He wouldn’t stand idly by when something this significant happened.
As expected, after he hung up, Mr. Yellen’s face was as pale as a sheet.
His previous arrogance had completely vanished. With a mixture of fear and uncertainty in his eyes, he cautiously approached me. Then, to everyone’s shock, he bent forward in a deep bow.
“Miss Redwood, I sincerely apologize… for my earlier behavior.”
The entire terminal fell silent.
Aubrie stared at Mr. Yellen, her eyes wide with disbelief. “What are you doing?! Have you lost your mind?”
Even Leo frowned, his tone icy as he asked, “Mr. Yellen, what is the meaning of this?”
Mr. Yellen straightened up. His face was contorted with discomfort. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he forced himself to explain.
“Mr. Tanke, the airport executives just called. They instructed us to immediately reinstate all of Miss Redwood’s privileges.”
“And furthermore… to comply unconditionally with any and all of Miss Redwood’s requests.”
Aubrie’s face darkened instantly. “That’s ridiculous! What kind of privileges could she possibly have?!”
Mr. Yellen didn’t dare respond, keeping his head low as sweat streamed down his face.
I casually toyed with my phone, then glanced up at Mr. Yellen with a smirk. “I told you to double-check before jumping to conclusions. See? You just wouldn’t listen.”
