Chapter 59
In the hotel, Allen’s phone rang. It was from the landline at Rose Villa.
Allen knocked on the bathroom door.
Matilda, who was in the shower, opened the door a crack and took the phone.
She answered the phone, “Tully.”
“Matilda, I did everything as you said. Kathy didn’t recognize Shelby and slapped her twice.”
Tully didn’t want to laugh, but couldn’t help it.
After laughing, Tully added, “Kathy said that she would have Mr. Grimes divorce you.”
Matilda was grateful. “Thank you, Tully.”
Tully smiled. “You’re welcome. By the way, Mr. Grimes just drove out. I wonder if he went to the city hall.”
After hanging up Tully’s call, Matilda finally felt relieved.
Her bag and phone were at Akas Restaurant.
She needed to get them back quickly, in case she missed a call from Brandon asking her to go to the city hall.
Matilda thought Allen was still waiting at the door, so she handed the phone out through the crack.
After waiting for two seconds with no response, she asked softly, “Allen? Allen, are you still there?”
No one responded.
Matilda pulled her hand back, closed and locked the door, and continued her shower.
At that moment, Allen was drinking water like a cow to suppress his impulse.
A man in the morning was inherently dangerous.
God knows how much he had suffered since last night.
Yet, Matilda was unknowingly alluring.
The glass door of the bathroom was translucent, and the closer he got, the clearer the silhouette became.
And Matilda was answering the phone at the door.
The moment Allen saw Matilda’s shadow, he couldn’t breathe on his own.
That was more seductive than Matilda herself, like a fairy in a tale.
She was tall, on the thinner side, but her every curve was just right.
He understood the principle of not looking at what was improper.
So when he regained his freedom of movement, he left immediately.

But the shadow of Matilda and every step she took replayed in his mind many times, lingering for a long time.
There was a knock at the door. It was the hotel room service, bringing their wet clothes from the night before.
They still felt damp to the touch.
He used a hair dryer to dry Matilda’s clothes.
He put them in a tote bag and hung them on the bathroom door handle.
Matilda came out dressed, and she was once again generous and decent.
Allen glanced at her and quickly looked away.
He realized that he was also quite lewd as his mind was full of Matilda without clothes.
“Dr. Saunders, you’re going the wrong way.” Matilda reminded him.
Since she came out of the bathroom, Allen hadn’t looked at her directly.
He didn’t even wait for her when he left the room.
He was good after getting lost once.
He obediently followed her into the elevator.
The elevator arrived on the first floor, and outside was the lobby.
A boy wearing a baseball cap came in, looked at them, and waved his hand, calling, “Sir.”
Allen raised his eyelids.
The boy saw Matilda next to him, and his head almost reached his belly.
He said nervously, “Sir, m-maybe this is the bag you’re looking for?”
Allen covered his mouth with the back of his hand and cleared his throat. “Yes, thank you.”
He took Matilda’s bag and handed it to her.
Matilda took it, her searching gaze fixed on the boy.
The boy said, “You’re welcome.”
Then he ran away.
Matilda didn’t see the boy’s face, but his voice and chin looked familiar.
Allen went to the register to pay.
Matilda quickly gathered her thoughts and took out a card from her bag to give to the hotel receptionist.
She said, “Return his deposit to the original payment method and use this card to pay.”
“I have the money,” Allen said with a light smile.

Matilda said, “I owe 600 million dollars, so what’s a little more?”
Allen sighed heavily in his heart.
She’s so optimistic, but it breaks my heart.
The hotel receptionist handed the card back to Matilda with both hands, and Allen took another look.
Seeing his curiosity, Matilda turned the card over to the front, revealing the gold-plated “S”.
Allen said, “This card, um, is quite special.”
Matilda said, “This isn’t a card. It’s my dignity!”

If she didn’t have this card, she would have become a stray dog in Shelby and Tinsley’s mouths the moment she left the Grimes family. How could she hold her head up high and live well?
So that was not just a card.
Matilda continued, “I still don’t know who this card belongs to. Dr. Saunders, do you think it’s yours?”
Matilda tilted her head to one side, staring at Allen, her eyes astonishingly clear.
She put on a faint smile, yet also with shrewd probing, not missing any of Allen’s subtle expressions.
Allen had a gentle smile on his lips, pushed his glasses up, and then looked at Matilda.
He said, “No matter who gave it to you, I don’t mind you treating it as if I gave it to you. That way, you’ll owe me another favor.”
That was an ambiguous, yet watertight answer.
Matilda couldn’t determine if the card belonged to Allen for a moment.
She said, “You’re overthinking it.”
She took her gaze away from Allen’s face, put the card into her bag, and unhurriedly walked out.
She said, “This Mr. S wouldn’t give me help in my hour of need for nothing. When he needs me to return the favor, he will definitely come to me. I can’t owe two favors for one card. That would kill me.”
Allen’s warm eyes shone with a special light.
He thought to himself, ‘I only want you. I can’t even bear to see you get tired, let alone see you suffer.
Matilda took out her phone and browsed through it.
There were no new messages or missed calls.
She wondered, ‘Did Brandon go to the city hall?’
Just as she was thinking, a familiar figure rushed in through the hotel’s revolving door.
Matilda had walked past, but she suddenly stopped and turned back.
She saw Brandon fiercely raise his fist and strike Allen, who was totally unprepared for the attack.

She shouted, “Careful.”
Matilda was about to step forward when she saw Allen turn his head to avoid the blow. The fist grazed Allen’s ear.
Allen’s reaction was rarely quick.
Allen saw that it was Brandon, and his gentle eyes suddenly became sharp.
He was thinking of teaching Brandon a lesson, but Brandon had come to him himself.
