Seeing Shelby come in, Lola quickly turned off her phone.
She called out sweetly, “Mommy.”

Shelby hugged Lola and then said to her, “There’s something I need to tell you in advance because I’m afraid you’ll be sad when you find out at school tomorrow.”
Lola looked at her. “Okay, tell me.”
Lola was well-behaved in front of Shelby because she believed that obedience was love.
Shelby told Lola about Matilda being Jolene’s godmother.
After Lola heard that, she wasn’t really sad, but she threw a tantrum.
She threw all the stuffed toys on the bed to the ground.
She cried angrily, “Jolene’s father hit my father.
“She even steals the mother I don’t want.
“Tomorrow, I will definitely make Jolene look bad.”
Shelby shook her head and said, “Have you forgotten what I told you? Girls can’t solve problems with aggressive methods.
“Speaking and acting impulsively like this will make people think the problem lies with you.
“You need to do the opposite.
“You need to play weak and act cute, so the teachers, parents, and classmates all stand on your side.
*For example, if a classmate snatches a candy you don’t like, that’s bullying you. Don’t hit or scold her. Instead, let your classmates and teachers know what that candy means to you.
“When they are all on your side, then you can say that it doesn’t matter if you don’t have this candy.”
At Maple Heights, Matilda read a picture book to lull Jolene to sleep.
Too tired, Matilda fell asleep before finishing a book.
Jolene got up, covered Matilda with the blanket, and tiptoed over Matilda to turn off the light.
Then she returned to her side of the bed, spread out Matilda’s right arm, rested her head on it, and snuggled into Matilda’s
shoulder and neck.
She thought to herself, ‘So this is how good it feels to be held by Mommy while sleeping.’
As long as she could remember, Jolene had been sleeping alone.
At first, her father, Allen, would hire nannies to sleep with her.

But those nannies were weird. They didn’t want to sleep with her. Instead, they all wanted to sleep with her father.
Allen was pissed.
He drove away one after another.
Finally, he discussed with Jolene whether she could sleep alone.
Matilda was the only woman Allen allowed to be near him.
Jolene liked Matilda, too.
So she had to take good care of Matilda, be especially nice to her, so Matilda couldn’t bear to leave her and her father.
Jolene looked at Matilda’s profile with a smile until she fell asleep.
Matilda opened her eyes and saw a soft and tender little girl in her arms.
A primal maternal love was aroused.
She gently kissed Jolene’s forehead, got dressed, and went downstairs for a run.
When she came back, Jolene was awake.
She instinctively called out “Matilda.”
Then, remembering something, she happily called out “Mommy,” and got dressed and washed up by herself.
The bathroom in the bedroom had a wet and dry separation.
Matilda showered in the shower room, and Jolene brushed her teeth in the dry area.
The two were busy with their own things, but they kept chatting.
The atmosphere was relaxed and happy, and it lasted until Jolene went to school.
Jolene wanted to ask Matilda if she could pick her up from school with her dad.
But, afraid that Matilda would think she was being a nuisance, she didn’t ask.
Matilda arrived at the office.
First, she arranged Group A’s work with Brigham.
Then, she went to work in Group B of the production line.
She wanted to use large models to improve RTL, efficiency and shorten the time for over a million lines of code.
That highly depended on the quantity and quality of the training corpus.
Before even starting, Jemma felt like she was about to break down.
Matilda feigned seriousness and said, “It’s not too late to change people…”

Jemma said immediately, “No, no, Ms. Warren, I’m just grumbling.”
Matilda said, “We all know what the significance of this project is once it succeeds.”
Faye said with a smile, “The significance is Coreline Eternity, meaning our hearts will go on and on.”
Jemma asked curiously. “Who came up with this name? It’s ambitious!”
Matilda thought of the day she applied for the job when Rufus asked her to give a name.
Later, Rufus called someone else.
That person’s voice was gentle but commanding, and it didn’t sound much like Martin.
The production line’s signal was completely out, and they couldn’t use their mobile phones normally.
The newly hired receptionist went through a lot of trouble before successfully passing the message to Matilda.
“Ms. Fisher wants to talk to you.”
Matilda left the production line and called Gillian back.
Gillian explained the whole thing.

“Jolene pushed Robin down, causing Robin’s hand to bleed. I contacted Jolene’s father first, but he was in surgery, and Dr. Hammond answered the phone.
“He said I could try to call Coreline Eternity to find you. If you are not available, he can come to school to solve the problem.”
Matilda understood and asked, “Was Jolene injured?”
Robin’s mother, Elsa Ponce, was next to Gillian.
Upon hearing Matilda’s question, Elsa immediately became displeased.
‘Are you kidding me? Jolene injured my son, and instead of caring about my son, you’re asking if Jolene is injured? Are you trying to weasel your way out of this?”
Matilda frowned,
Cillian tried to smooth things over,
‘Mrs. Ponce, please calm down. Ms. Warren is just trying to understand the situation…
“Ms. Warren, if it’s convenient for you, please come to school.”
If Matilda left, work could not continue.
So she let everyone leave work early today.
Starting the next day, she would work overtime and increase her workload.
Matilda hurried to school and saw Lola first.
She was talking to a classmate, laughing with her chin held high.

Lola didn’t tie up her hair today, and her pink-brown curly hair was scattered over her shoulders.
She was wearing a Chanel-style suit, with a skirt that was slightly above the knee.
The outfit wasn’t revealing, and objectively speaking, it was a bit pretty, but it lacked a bit of childishness.
Lola also saw Matilda and turned her face away as if she had seen her enemy.
Then, after a brief daze, her face suddenly changed, and she ran towards Matilda.
“Mommy!”
Her milky voice was sweet, sincere, and pure.
Matilda turned her face away indifferently.
Yesterday at the police station, Lola even asked the police to shoot her.
And then there was that look of disgust when they just made eye contact.
She wasn’t blind and could still tell what was real and what wasn’t.
Matilda ignored Lola, who was running towards her, and walked straight to the teacher’s office.
Some parents who had arrived early to pick up their children saw that.
They kindly came over to comfort the disappointed Lola.
They had seen the videos privately sent by some parents the day before and spat at Matilda’s back.
“She doesn’t even want her own daughter, yet she’s eager to be a stepmother to someone else’s child. Selfish and a simp!”
