Chapter 7

Without a moment’s hesitation, Spencer simply instructed his assistant, “Do it.”

When it came to Seraphina, his trust was unconditional.

After everything she’d been through, Seraphina found it hard to trust anyone so easily again.

“Spencer, we’re practically strangers. Why are you helping me like this?”

She had initially thought he must want something from her, but the more she thought about it, the more she realized she had nothing he could possibly want.

Spencer, wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, regarded her with a faint smile. “You’ll find out when we get home.”

“Seraphina, you can let your guard down with me. After all, I’ve been waiting twenty years for you.”

Seraphina’s brow furrowed.

Twenty years? Was he waiting for her before she was even born?

She dismissed the thought as quickly as it came.

She couldn’t believe one person could wait for another for so long.

No matter how much she pressed him after that, Spencer remained silent.

He only said, “You’ll know when we get home.”

Caspian had planned to take Thalia back to the Andersons’, but the house was swarmed with media. There was no way in.

In the end, he took her back to the Kingsley mansion.

The moment they were inside, Thalia burst into tears.

“It must have been Seraphina! Only she has those drafts. She’s trying to ruin me!”

“Caspian, you have to stand up for me! If you don’t, my life is over!”

“Seraphina always listens to you. Make her come forward and confess that she was the one behind this.”

From the moment they arrived, Thalia hadn’t stopped complaining.

Caspian’s initial sympathy was rapidly wearing thin.

He said in a low voice, “Thalia, that painting was Seraphina’s to begin with. It’s only natural she’d be upset after being labeled a plagiarist.”

‘As for you, if you hadn’t coveted her work in the first place, maybe none of this would have happened.”

‘I’ll have my people handle the fallout. I’ll try talking to Seraphina, but I can’t guarantee she’ll be willing to make a statement.”

With that, Caspian went upstairs to his study.

Thalia stared at his retreating back for a few seconds, stunned.

Before, no matter what happened, Caspian would have unconditionally taken her side. He certainly wouldn’t have just left her standing there alone.

Suddenly, a flicker of unease ignited in Thalia’s heart.

She was afraid that Caspian had fallen in love with Seraphina.

Back in his study, Caspian stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, rubbing his temples.

In times like these, Seraphina would usually come and give him a relaxing massage, quietly preparing everything he needed without a word.

Although Thalia was the one at fault this time, the damage was done. Rather than letting them both get hurt, it was better to let Seraphina take the fall.

Thinking about what happened that afternoon, Caspian’s frown deepened.

He’d been back for a while, and Seraphina hadn’t come out. She was probably sulking.

Caspian went to Seraphina’s bedroom, only to find it empty. All of her things were gone.

Instantly, Casplan’s face darkened.

Was she running away from home just to spite him?

Caspian took out his phone to text Seraphina, but the only response was a red exclamation mark.

She had blocked him.

He immediately tried calling, only to find he had been blacklisted.

For so many years, Seraphina’s world had revolved around him. Forget running away, she would tell him even if she was just going out to sign a contract.

But this time, she had taken such an extreme step.

‘Bang!” Caspian hurled his phone against the wall.

He hated this feeling of not being in control.

That night, Caspian didn’t try to contact Seraphina. He told himself you couldn’t spoil a woman.

Seraphina was crazy about him. It would only take a day for her to come running back.

3ut by eleven the next morning, Seraphina still hadn’t returned. She hadn’t even called.

A knot of dread began to form in Caspian’s stomach. He called his assistant.

‘Check Seraphina’s recent schedule for me. Is she on a business trip?”

Seraphina often went on business trips, it wasn’t unusual.

The assistant was silent for a few seconds before saying hesitantly, “Mr. Kingsley, you forgot. Ms. Anderson has already resigned.”
