Chapter 8

Caspian’s mind went blank. It took him a long moment to process what he’d heard.

“Resigned? When did she resign? Why wasn’t I told!”.

The assistant explained, “Ms. Anderson submitted her resignation letter to HR. It had your signature on it.”

“When Ms. Anderson left yesterday, she handed her work over to me. She said the resignation letter was on your dining table. Perhaps you should go and take a

look?”

Before the assistant could finish, Caspian rushed downstairs and immediately saw the two documents on the dining table.

The word “DIVORCE” burned his eyes.

Although he had always treated Seraphina as a substitute, he had never once considered divorce.

He was loath to admit it, but after all their years together, Caspian had developed an indescribable attachment to Seraphina.

He had never imagined she would leave him one day.

It felt as if a giant hand was squeezing his chest, making it impossible to breathe.

On the other end of the line, the assistant, worried by Caspian’s prolonged silence, asked, “Mr. Kingsley, are you alright?”

Caspian took a deep breath, his eyes turning red as he stared at the divorce papers he had signed with his own hand.

‘Find her. Find out where she is.”

Hearing the raw edge in Caspian’s voice, the assistant didn’t dare say another word.

Yes, sir. I’ll get on it right away.”

After hanging up, Caspian felt completely deflated.

No wonder there had been a flicker of sadness in her eyes after he’d signed the documents.

she had been planning her escape all along.

And that night when she mentioned planning a wedding, could she be getting married?

But the thought lasted only a moment before he dismissed it.

Seraphina was divorcing him out of disappointment, but she hadn’t had contact with any other men for years. It was impossible for her to get married so

quickly.

As Caspian was lost in thought about Seraphina, Thalia came up behind him unnoticed.

Caspian, the internet is flooded with posts bashing me. If this keeps up, my career will be completely ruined.”

Caspian, I can’t handle being cyberbullied. You have to help me.”

Before, Caspian would have helped her in a heartbeat.

but with Seraphina gone, Caspian had realized something.

He didn’t seem to like Thalia as much as he thought.

His feelings for her were just an obsession born from what he couldn’t have. The one he truly loved now was Seraphina!

Caspian paused for a few seconds. “Thalia, at the end of the day, this is your fault. Once those drafts were leaked, it was obvious to everyone what really happened.”

“Instead of trying to lie your way out of it, you should just tell the truth. Then I’ll hire the best PR team to manage the fallout. In time, people will forget.”

Thalia’s brow furrowed tightly as she stared at him.

18:53

“Carplan, if I admit to plagiarism, my career in this industry is over.”

“All the other socialites will look down on me. You know I can’t stand their scornful looks.”

Previously, whenever Thalia said this, Caspian’s heart would go out to her. But this time, he contradicted her.

“And you think Seraphina can stand it?”

“Thalia, everyone makes mistakes. But when you do something wrong, you have to own up to it.”

“And I think you’ve changed. The Thalia I remember was kind and innocent. She never would have plagiarized someone’s work and then framed them for it. What exactly have they been teaching you overseas all these years?”

There was deep disappointment in Caspian’s eyes.

Thalia stared at him, dumbfounded, unable to believe those words were coming from his mouth.

Her eyes brimming with tears, she demanded, “Caspian, do you not love me anymore?”

“You’ve fallen in love with Seraphina, haven’t you?”
