Chapter 13

Thud!

Caspian’s phone slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor. He stood frozen, not a trace of joy on his face.

Thalia pretended not to notice, beaming as she shared the news with him.

“Caspian, I’m pregnant. Based on the timing, I should be about two months along. Let’s get married.”

“I know you have feelings for Seraphina now, but I don’t care. We can build our love over time.”

“Honestly, what you feel for Seraphina is just habit. You never really loved her, you just got used to her being around.”

“So, if you just give me enough time, you’ll fall in love with me again, Caspian.”

A chill ran through Caspian. He felt no joy at the prospect of becoming a father, only a deep sense of resistance.

He did want a child, but with Seraphina.

Before, he had been blinded by an idealized childhood memory of Thalia, unable to see right from wrong.

But now he saw her clearly. If he really had a child with Thalia, she was incapable of raising it well.

Caspian took a deep breath and looked at Thalia, his voice firm. “This baby is coming at the wrong time. Get rid of it.”

I’ll make an appointment for you at a clinic. All you have to do is show up.”

Caspian didn’t give her a choice in the matter.

No matter how much Thalia pleaded, he left without a backward glance.

The first thing Caspian did after leaving the Andersons’ was call his assistant, telling him to find any trace of Seraphina.

No matter where she was, he would find her.

The following week, Seraphina was incredibly busy.

As the heir to the Beaumont family, the company’s domestic and international operations were all waiting for her to take over.

Fortunately, her experience as Caspian’s secretary allowed her to get up to speed quickly. In just one week, she had mastered the ins and outs of the Beaumont

Group.

On this day, Spencer’s car was waiting for her outside the Beaumont estate.

Seraphina changed into a white dress she had bought specifically for today.

spencer held a bouquet of flowers, smiling as he presented them to Seraphina. “Lilies today.”

For the past week, Spencer had sent her different flowers every single day.

Because she had once casually mentioned that she had never received flowers these years, he had sent them daily.

Seraphina knew of this particular flower shop, it was notoriously difficult to get a bouquet from.

Although they had only been together for a week, Spencer treated her incredibly well, as if he wanted to give her all the best things in the world.

“Thank you.”

“My mother told me Mrs. Hayes likes light colors, so I chose this white dress. I hope to make a good first impression.”

Because Spencer was so thoughtful toward her, Seraphina returned the sentiment in kind.

At this, Spencer smiled faintly. “It doesn’t matter what you wear. As long as it’s you, my mother will love you.”

“Tonight is a family dinner, and some of the extended Hayes family will be there, so it might be a bit crowded. If you don’t feel like talking to people, you can

just stick by my side.”

Seraphina shook her head. “I’m not that delicate. Anyone attending a family dinner must be your relatives. Since they’re your family, why would I avoid them?”

“It’s getting late. We should hurry to your family’s home. I don’t want to be late the first time I meet my future mother-in-law.”

An hour later, the car stopped at the foot of a mountain.

Because the Hayes family had a hundred-year history and was vast, they had bought an entire mountain. The main branch of the family lived at the summit, while the other branches resided at the foot or halfway up.

Although she had seen a lot in the past few days, she was still stunned by the sheer extravagance of the Hayes family.

Seeing Seraphina’s bewildered expression, Spencer smiled. “Let’s go up. Soon enough, you’ll be the mistress of this place, and you can look at it as much as you

want.”

To prevent outsiders from entering the estate, everyone going up the mountain had to take a special vehicle.

After more than ten minutes, the car finally stopped in front of a mansion.

The ornate iron gates slowly swung open. Even though it was night, the area outside the mansion was as bright as day.

After getting out, Spencer led Seraphina inside.

However, they didn’t see Mrs. Hayes, they were told she had gone to the upstairs study to take a call.

Spencer first introduced Seraphina to his father.

“Dad, this is Seraphina.”.

Mr. Hayes looked a few years older than Mr. Beaumont, his expression more stern.

“So you’re Seraphina. Spencer has told us all about you. You’ve had a difficult time all these years.”

“But now that you’re here, as long as the Hayes family stands, we won’t let you suffer any more hardship.”

Mr. Hayes glanced at the butler beside him, who then presented a prepared gift.

This is the jade bracelet passed down through generations of Hayes family matriarchs. It was with Spencer’s mother, but now it’s time for you to have it.”

Seraphina looked at Mr. Hayes in shock. She and Spencer were only engaged, not officially married yet. Giving her a family heirloom now seemed incredibly premature.

Before she could speak, a voice dripping with envy cut in.

‘Uncle, that is a Hayes family heirloom. You should be careful before giving it away.”

‘I heard that Miss Beaumont used to live with the Anderson family in Westwood as their adopted daughter. And just a week ago, a scandal broke out about her plagiarizing her own sister’s artwork.”

Even though you are the heiress of the Beaumont family, the Hayes family will not tolerate a plagiarist as its matriarch.”
