Seraphina’s brow furrowed. Jessica was really getting on her nerves.
But Mrs. Hayes’s next words were a resounding slap in Jessica’s face.
“Was I talking to you? Aren’t you the biggest fake bitch in this entire family?”
“I am not in a good mood. If you say one more word, don’t blame me for disrespecting your aunt and having someone throw you out.”
The crowd gasped. In the Hayes family, only Mrs. Hayes would dare to be so blunt.
The next second, Mrs. Hayes grabbed Seraphina’s hand, pointed at the bracelet on her wrist, and said irritably.
“You’ve already accepted the family heirloom, and you’re still calling me ‘Mrs. Hayes’?”
“Call me ‘Mom’!”
Everyone was dumbfounded, including Seraphina herself.
She thought Mrs. Hayes disliked her, but it turned out she was just angry that Seraphina hadn’t called her “Mom”.
For a moment, Seraphina’s face burned crimson.
Mrs. Hayes deliberately teased her. “What, getting shy now? You’ve been our family’s daughter-in-law since you were little. We’ve finally found you, and I’m not letting you go again.”
“I heard from Spencer you’re planning the wedding for next month? That’s too long! I wish you could get married right now and officially become my daughter-in-law!”
Every word Mrs. Hayes said took Seraphina by surprise.
But it was clear Mrs. Hayes was very fond of her, which finally put Seraphina’s anxious heart at ease.
Seeing Seraphina’s shy expression, Spencer stepped in. “Mom, this month is too rushed. Next month is perfect.”
Mrs. Hayes sighed. “Sigh, it’s all your parents’ fault. They didn’t protect you properly, which is why you were lost for so many years. Otherwise, you would have been my daughter-in-law long ago.”
‘Seraphina, don’t you worry. The Hayes family has a tradition: the women run the household. Once you’re married, Spencer’s father and I will be heading abroad for a nice long trip. We’ll leave the family to you two.”
Listening to Mrs. Hayes, Seraphina couldn’t help but feel like she was being set up.
It seemed they were eager to go traveling, but the family was a burden. Once she married in, they could finally wash their hands of it all.
Jessica, mad with jealousy, flipped a nearby tablecloth, sending all the wine bottles on it crashing to the floor in a shower of glass.
Both Mr. Hayes and Spencer immediately shielded their wives.
Seraphina was pulled into Spencer’s arms. “Are you okay?” He asked.
Seraphina smiled. “I’m fine.”
This was the second time she had been protected in a moment of danger,
The first was at thirty thousand feet, when Spencer had risked his own life to save her.
This was the second.
So, she could be protected, too.
Spencer breathed a sigh of relief as bodyguards rushed in from outside and restrained Jessica.
Jessica stared at the Hayes family, laughing and crying hysterically.

Seraphina looked at the crowd. “Jessica lost a bet to me. I want to handle this myself.”
Mrs. Hayes nodded, giving her permission.
Seraphina walked up to Jessica, looking down at her. “A bet’s a bet. From now on, you will disappear from our lives, leave the Hayes’ home, and apologize to me.
in public.”
Jessica’s face was contorted in a sneer. “Apologize? To you? On what grounds?”
A chill emanated from Seraphina’s brow, her tone icy. “On the grounds that I am the future mistress of the Hayes family.”
Then, Seraphina added, “If you really don’t want to apologize, that’s fine too. Just know that you won’t be able to make a life in New York anymore. Neither the Hayes family nor the Beaumont family will let you off the hook.”
Jessica had lived in the Hayes’ house for over a decade, accustomed to getting her own way. This was the first time anyone had threatened her like this, and she rembled with rage.
Seraphina Beaumont, my aunt is your second aunt-in-law! Aren’t you afraid of getting a reputation for being cruel by treating me this way?”
At this, Mrs. Hayes, who was standing nearby, let out a cold laugh.
“If that stupid aunt of yours thinks we’re being cruel, then I’ll be a cruel sister-in-law and have her thrown out of this house along with you.”
The words had barely left her mouth when the Aunt rushed in and immediately distanced herself from the situation.
