Chapter 18

Jessica had been waiting for her aunt to back her up, but instead, she was being disowned and thrown under the bus.

“Aunt, I’m your own niece!”

The Aunt stared at her with cold eyes. “Even if you were my own daughter, I couldn’t protect you after you did something so brainless.”

“Seraphina, dear, Jessica is Jessica, and I am me. You mustn’t misunderstand your Uncle and me because of her mistake.”

Seraphina knew she was trying to suck up to her and played along.

“Don’t worry, Aunt. You’re so understanding, I would never be so unreasonable.”

“Jessica, my patience is wearing thin.”

No matter how resentful she felt, Jessica still stumbled to her feet and bowed in apology to Seraphina.

“Miss Beaumont, I’m sorry. I was narrow-minded and misunderstood you. Please, be the bigger person and forgive me.”

Though her words were an apology, her lowered fists were clenched tightly, and her eyes were red-rimmed, as if she were the one who had been deeply wronged.

Seraphina linked her arm with Spencer’s and shot a look at Jessica. “I am indeed a narrow-minded person, especially when it comes to my man.”

Since she was going to marry Spencer, she wouldn’t tolerate any rivals.

“I know Miss Sheffield has had other ideas about Spencer in the past. But from now on, he is my husband. So please, put those little schemes of yours away.

Otherwise, you’ll find that I, Seraphina Beaumont, am not someone to be trifled with.”

It was both a warning and a threat.

Before Jessica could speak, her aunt cut in.

“Seraphina, don’t you worry. The Sheffield family is bankrupt. At best, Jessica is an orphan. How could she possibly be worthy of the future head of the Hayes family?”

You are the eldest daughter of the Beaumont family and their sole heir. The position of Hayes family matriarch is rightfully yours.”

Jessica glared at her aunt, humiliated.

When she had first come to the Hayes’ home, it was her who told her Spencer was the most eligible bachelor in their circle, that if she could just get into his bed, she could revive the Sheffield family fortune.

But now, to save her own skin, she had sold out her own niece without a second thought.

30 much for family ties.

Jessica had apologized, and Seraphina couldn’t be bothered to deal with them any longer.

she had someone move all of Jessica’s things out and escort her off the Hayes estate.

Before the dinner, everyone in the Hayes family had assumed Seraphina would be a pushover, having been on her own for over 20 years.

After the incident with Jessica, Seraphina had established her authority in the Hayes family. Now, everyone addressed her respectfully as Miss Beaumont.

The next day.

The Hayes family helicopter landed on the mountaintop.

Today was the Kingsley Corp. shareholders’ meeting.

Because Spencer was transferring all of his Kingsley Corp. shares to Seraphina’s name, every shareholder needed to be present.

Before boarding, Spencer hesitated for the first time in his life.

He didn’t want Seraphina to go to Westwood. He was afraid.

Even when Seraphina came out, Spencer still seemed distracted.

“What’s wrong? Didn’t you sleep well?”

Last night, Seraphina had stayed over at the Hayes’ house, in Spencer’s room.

They were both adults who had confessed their feelings for each other, and Spencer had been relentless.

He had taken her again and again.

This morning, there were still faint red marks on her hips.

Spencer shook his head and looked at her seriously.

“This time, when we go back to Westwood, if Caspian tries to get back together with you, what will you do?”

“Seraphina, you were in love with him for so many years. I’m afraid that if he just asks, I won’t stand a chance.”
