Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Back home, I started packing my bags.
The day to leave had arrived-no point staying here any longer.
Nathan kicked my door open just as I was on the phone with Marcus.
Yes, tomorrow works. Please send someone to pick me up then.”
Nathan stormed in, demanding: “Pick you up? Who the hell are you talking to?”
I hadn’t expected him to get back from the hospital so quickly.
“My personal business. I don’t need to report to Mr. Pierce, do I?”
“You want to leave? Isabella’s lying in a hospital bed and you’re here packing? What-after nearly killing her, you think you can just
run?”
Nathan flipped over my packed suitcase, clothes scattering across the floor.
If you say it was me, then it was me. You won’t believe anything I say anyway.”
I bent down to collect my clothes, but he stepped on my fingers with his shoe.
“Go to the hospital and apologize to Isabella! If you ruin our wedding in two days because of this, I won’t forgive you.”
Wedding in two days?
I hadn’t realized he’d scheduled their wedding for my birthday.
The day he’d originally promised to marry ME!
He ground his heel into my knuckles until they went numb with pain.
I pulled my hand free, staring at my reddened fingertips with a blank expression: “Nathan, if you want the truth, check the security
cameras!”
Security cameras? Are you saying Isabella’s lying?” Nathan laughed harshly, suddenly grabbing my collar. “Jade, let me tell you something-Isabella would NEVER lie to me. She’s kind hearted, gentle, generous. Not like YOU with all your scheming!”
Over the years, I had indeed done many underhanded things for Nathan’s sake.
I still remembered when the company was just starting out-to steal business, I’d waited alone outside Marcus Stone’s business dinner from evening until midnight.
The moment Marcus left, I cornered his potential partner Mr. Smith, handing him the proposal I’d worked on all night: “Mr. Smith, our development plan will make more money than just building office towers. Please take a look.”
Mr. Smith made things difficult, forcing me to drink with him. I drank even until I was vomiting blood.
Later, when I was completely wasted, Mr. Smith tried to grope me. I barely managed to escape.
In the company’s third year, our funding suddenly dried up. Workers showed up daily, blocking our entrance demanding payment.

Chapter 7
I was the one who faced them down with contracts in hand, sending them all away.
“According to the contract, payment isn’t due for another ten days. If you keep causing trouble, I’ll call the police!”
Nathan always said. “Jade, you’re incredible. Even those old sharks bend to your will.”
He only saw my victories, never my tear stained eyes afterward.
I was just a young girl too. I was scared too. But for Nathan’s sake, I had to be strong.
And now he was mocking me for being scheming!
“Jade, how long are you going to keep this up? Do you really want me to force your hand? You know I don’t want it to come to that.”
I looked at him calmly: “What exactly can Mr. Pierce do to me?”
Nathan threw a document in my face. “I have ‘evidence’ of every deal you’ve handled over the years. If you don’t want to go to prison for bribery, you’d better get to that hospital right now and apologize to Isabella.”
Looking at the papers in my hands, I laughed bitterly.
Nathan, you’re pretty ruthless.”
Ruthless? Compared to you? You attacked a pregnant woman, went after my child-did you consider my feelings at all? I’ve been too good to you all these years, which is why you’ve become so vicious. That’s on me!”
Just bow and apologize to Isabella, and I’ll let this go. Work hard for the company from now on, and I won’t mistreat you. A woman ike you probably can’t even survive without me.”
Fine.”
threw the document on the floor and stared at him expressionlessly: “As you wish. I’ll go apologize to Isabella!”
Vathan, this is the last time. Tomorrow I’ll be gone!
want you to see who really can’t survive without whom!
