Chapter 9 Kneel and Apologize

Michael wanted to say something but realized there was no need to explain anything to her.
The two of them eventually fell asleep, each lost in their own thoughts.
Clara spent a busy week dealing with the aftermath of her grandmother’s passing, from finding a burial site to arranging the cremation, and finally delivering the urn to Bennett Residence.
On this day, dressed in black, Clara arrived at the Bennett Residence early in the morning.
She placed the urn in the center of the room and had already prepared some flowers for the ritual.
Dylan wasn’t home, but Emily was. The Bennett Residence had hung mourning banners although they didn’t invite others to mourn, and word had spread to some extent among those outside.
She didn’t care whether Dylan’s family would see Grace off; she just wanted to mourn her properly.
However, she didn’t expect Emma would come home that day.
“Oh! Look who it is. So, your grandmother’s dead, huh? You don’t even have a proper place to mourn her, and you come to my house for it? How unlucky!”
Emma had heard from Emily earlier that Clara would be holding a funeral at Bennett Residence today, so she rushed over.
She had waited a week on the yacht but didn’t see that man again. Before coming to the Bennett Residence, she was worried she might miss him again, so she had sent him a message, saying, ‘I’ll be going home for something today.’
“Emma, watch your mouth!”
Today was Grace’s funeral, and all Clara wanted was to mourn her properly.
She looked at her grandmother’s kind and gentle black-and-white portrait kneeling on the ground, her eyes filled with tears.
“How dare you want me to watch my mouth? Who do you think you are? Take a good look at whose house you’re mourning your grandmother in. Do you think you’d be able to mourn in peace if it weren’t for my mom’s kindness?”
Emma was furious thinking about how Clara had threatened her mother. Besides, with the child in her belly soon to be born and recognized by everyone, she would become a rich man’s wife, living a life of luxury.
Clara glanced at Emily on the side, knowing Emily hadn’t told Emma about her own disgraceful behavior.
Today was her grandmother’s funeral, and all Clara wanted was to spend a peaceful day mourning in front of her. She thought that by ignoring Emma, she would give up. However, Emma would only escalate her behavior.
“Yes, I’m pregnant. Soon, the child’s father will take me home, announce our existence, and marry me. Do you know who my child’s father is? Do you know how rich he is? Clara, I’ll let you know what it feels like to be defeated by me!”
Clara still ignored her.
However, this enraged Emma even more.
She clenched her fists in anger and knocked something over seeing it at hand.
Crash!
A porcelain object fell to the ground, shattering with a crisp sound.
It wasn’t just any object; it was the urn holding Grace’s ashes!
Clara watched as the urn shattered into pieces, and the ashes spilled onto the floor.
She quickly crawled over, using her hands to gather the ashes, trying to put them back into the broken urn, but they wouldn’t stay.
Suddenly, someone stepped on her hand. She saw Emma’s smug face looking up.
She immediately stood up, facing her head-on.
Emma was somewhat frightened at this moment. She had never seen such a sharp look in Clara’s eyes, like knives cutting into her.
“What are you glaring at!” Emma thought about her imminent marriage to a wealthy family and refused to take this lying down!
“Apologize to me and my grandmother for what you just said,” said Clara expressionlessly, staring directly at Emma.
Emma stepped back and sneered, “Why should I apologize to you and that old hag?”
Clara didn’t hesitate and slapped her as soon as those disrespectful words left her mouth.
Smack!
The sudden slap left Emma’s cheek stinging.
“Since your mom didn’t teach you how to behave, I will!”
“How dare you hit me?” Emma snapped out of her shock, clutching her aching face.
In the next second, she immediately reached out to hit back, but Emily quickly stepped in to stop her.
Emily, remembering that Clara had leverage over her, quickly said, “Emma, be careful of the child in your belly. What if something happens?”
“Mom!” Emma was still furious, stomping her feet in frustration.
“Go upstairs now!” Emily, knowing Clara wasn’t someone to be trifled with, ordered her daughter sternly.
Emma reluctantly turned and walked away, seeing her mother’s determined look.
However, Clara wasn’t about to let Emma leave so easily. “Stop right there!”
Blocking Emma’s path, Clara said, “Apologize to me and my grandmother!”
“Clara, you want me to apologize? Dream on! My mom might worry about my reputation, but I don’t! Do you know who the father of my child is? He’s a wealthy man! I’ll make you pay if you dare mess with me. Watch out!”
Clara wasn’t angry and a smile tugged at her lips as she directly pulled Emma outside. She didn’t want the next events to sully her grandmother’s memorial!
Emily followed them out.
Clara took out her phone and casually played a video from her album.
“You’re so bad; you always make me feel so good.”
“You really are a little s*ut. Little s*ut, here I come!”
“Oh.”
Then came some unspeakable sounds.
Clara’s face remained expressionless as she continued to play the next video.
“You little s*ut, you’ve almost drained me dry.”
“Hurry up and take some medicine. I haven’t even started enjoying myself yet. Hurry up.”
Emma snatched the phone before the video could finish, her face red as she quickly turned off the embarrassing footage.
She shot an angry glance at Emily, standing beside them.
“I have backups even if you delete them. I wonder if the father of your child can tolerate you sleeping with so many men?”
Clara watched as Emma deleted the videos, but it was useless; she had backups.
She had once helped a hacker boss with an illness, and finding these things was no problem for him.
Although it was in a bar hotel, those hotels were equipped with hidden cameras. Some videos were also of Emma with men in secluded corners.
Emma deleted them one by one, only to realize there were too many to delete them all. Furious, she clenched the phone in her hand and glared at Clara.
What will happen if that man finds out I’ve slept with so many other men…
Not only would she never marry that man, but she’d also have to get rid of the child in her belly!
“Delete everything. I’ll apologize to you and your grandmother!” Emma reluctantly agreed through gritted teeth.
“My grandmother would prefer a sincere apology, not that attitude of yours.”
“Fine!” Emma bit her lip and reluctantly agreed.
Clara retrieved her phone from Emma’s hand and gestured for her to return to the memorial hall.
Emma walked ahead, while Emily walked alongside Clara.
“You and your daughter are two of a kind. I wonder if my uncle will faint from anger when he finds out.”
“Clara, you’ve already got the trust fund. You can’t do this!” A few days ago, Emily had given Clara the trust fund, which took a lot of effort to secure from Dylan.
“Don’t worry, I keep my word.” Clara walked into the memorial hall and saw Emma standing before her grandmother’s black-and-white portrait.
“Do it properly if you’re going to apologize. Kneel and offer a sincere apology!”
Emma was reluctant, but her lifeline was in Clara’s hands. She had no choice but to do as she was told.
“I’m sorry, Grandma. I said some hurtful things earlier and broke your urn. I apologize.”
Emma even groveled after apologizing.
Her clenched fists, bloodshot eyes, and tightly pressed lips revealed her inner vow.
Someday, I will make Clara pay!
