The small amount of Charm Smoke that Michael had inhaled should have been something he could withstand.
However, for some reason, he found himself reacting intensely to the woman in front of him. The effects of Charm Smoke only amplified his response, but he knew deep down that his reaction was more than just the drug–it was instinctual.

The restless energy within her burst forth, and she sought only relief. She hooked her arms around Michael’s neck and kissed him.

Clara tried to pry open his tightly closed lips, but no matter what she did, he held firm.
Frustrated and teary–eyed, she bit his lip. When he finally relented, she took the opportunity to deepen the kiss.
Her clumsy technique made Michael frown.

Her eyes caught sight of the messy clothes scattered on the floor. Her clothes had been torn to shreds, proof of how wild the two of them had been the night before.

As she pondered, the door suddenly opened. She froze, her eyes widening in shock.
“Last night, you were under the influence of Charm Smoke. I was too,” Michael said in a stern
tone.
He was certain that if it hadn’t been for Clara provoking him, he could have resisted the effects of Charm Smoke entirely.
Clara was startled, recalling that she had gone to bed early the previous night and let her guard down, causing her to fall victim to Charm Smoke.
Regret surged within her.
Michael noticed every change in her expression.
Last night, as they had an intimacy, there was something oddly familiar about the experience.
He took a step closer, his long fingers gripping her chin, forcing her to look at him. “Do you hate the idea of being with me that much?”
He was surprised at himself for asking this question.
Last night, he had been infatuated with her body for far too long. Even after the effects of Charm Smoke had worn off in an hour, he was still unsatisfied.
It wasn’t until she passed out from exhaustion that he finally let her go.
This was the first time he had felt like this toward any woman.
A flash of memory brought back the image of the woman in the hospital storeroom. Strangely, the figure in his mind was not Jade’s–it was the woman standing before him.
Clara winced in pain and quickly pushed his hand away. She rubbed her sore jaw as she glared at him. “Are you out of your mind? Don’t you know our relationship is based on an agreement? I treat your illness, and you help me take back Bennett Enterprise.”
She was frustrated with herself for what had happened the night before, but when she thought about it now, she realized she didn’t find it as repulsive as she might have expected.
Whatever.I would just consider it a bite from a dog. My first night has already been taken in the hospital…

“No need,” Clara cut him off before he could finish. “You don’t need to take responsibility. You didn’t intend to sleep with me last night, and we’re both victims here. Let’s just avoid this happening again.”
“Clara, do you even realize what you’re saying? You’re a woman, yet you can say something like that so calmly?”
Michael clenched his fists in anger, his eyes burning with fury.
Clara was confused. “Why did you piss off? What’s the matter? Do you really think I would make you take responsibility? What about Jade?”
Her question left Michael at a loss for words.
Clara might be willing to make deals with people, but she would never choose a man like Michael as her husband, especially not one who had another woman.
“I need to get dressed. Can you…” Clara gestured toward the door with her eyes.
Michael snorted in annoyance and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
After half an hour, Clara had cleaned everything up. She changed the bed sheets and washed the clothes that had been strewn across the floor.
When she came out, she found Michael sitting silently on the couch in the living room. He didn’t even notice the phone on the table vibrating continuously.
She walked over and found that it was Jade calling. She handed the phone to Michael after answering it.
Only then did Michael react. He took the phone, frowning as he listened to the familiar voice that now grated on his nerves.
“Darling, I’m so bored all by myself. Do you want to come over tonight? Or you could give me your address, and I’ll come to you.”
Michael barely registered what she was saying. He simply replied, “Okay.”
Emma was immediately delighted. “Then give me your address. I’ll come to see you.”

In fact, Emma wanted to see just how wealthy this powerful man was. She needed to secure him quickly before Clara had a chance to win him over.
At the same time, she still had to find another opportunity to get rid of Clara.

“Who took your first night?” Michael’s expression was grim.
As he sat in silence on the couch earlier, he kept thinking about the lack of blood on the sheets. He had also noticed last night that it wasn’t her first night.
The thought of Clara once lying beneath another man, moaning softly, made him extremely uncomfortable.
His sharp gaze pierced her, as if demanding an answer.
Clara was stunned. She didn’t want to tell him that it had been an accident, and she didn’t even know who the man was.
