Emma finally breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Clara’s words. The only way to make desire to reconnect with that man was to claim that the baby in her belly
Clara let go of any
belonged to him.
But soon after, Emily called. “What did you say?” Emma asked.
She immediately searched some obscure websites and was horrified to find videos of herself with various men. Is this Clara’s doing?
She didn’t have time to confront Clara; she had to handle this situation first. If the big shot finds out, it’s all over!
“Mom, no matter how much it costs, you have to help me sort this out. Dad must not find out. I can’t let everything I’ve worked for go to waste. I’ll also look for someone on my end. For now, let’s leave it at that.”
After hanging up, Emma called someone who frequently helped her with such matters.
In the study, Michael reviewed a detailed report sent by Eric. His brow furrowed as he read about Clara’s ex–boyfriend, with whom she had been involved for three years.
Three years… Whatever was meant to happen, whether it was right or wrong, just did. It all happened.
Michael’s grip on the documents on his desk tightened unconsciously.
At the same time, Eric discovered that the unknown number belonged to Emma.
It seems the lesson I gave Bennett Enterprise didn’t quite hit the mark, Michael thought to himself.
“Eric, make Bennett Enterprise pay a bit more. Just be careful not to push them too far.”
Michael gritted his teeth as he spat out those words. He wished he could bankrupt Bennett Enterprise and put an end to Emma once and for all. But remembering his promise to Clara to help her regain control of Bennett Enterprise, he decided to teach them another lesson instead.
Meanwhile, Clara was in the kitchen, making herself a bowl of noodles. As she sat at the dining table eating, Michael walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down. She deliberately avoided looking at him, though her heart was racing.
He must have looked into my ex–boyfriend and Emma by now.
“Why did you break up with
your ex–boyfriend?” Michael asked, his mind preoccupied with the
photos of her with her ex–boyfriend from the report.

She had looked so happy and carefree, nestled against him, a stark contrast to how she was now.
“I didn’t expect you to care about my old relationships, Mr. Goodman. If you’re curious, I can tell you. But shouldn’t you be more interested in the photo Emma sent you?”
Clara continued to eat her noodles without lifting her head.
Despite Michael’s intense gaze, he couldn’t spot any cracks in her composure.
“I’m actually more interested in what happened between you and your ex–boyfriend. How did you two break up?”
He poured himself a glass of water from the jug on the table, keeping his eyes fixed on her as she ate.
Clara looked up, ready to accuse him of being intrusive, but the seriousness in his gaze made her realize that avoiding the subject wouldn’t help.
“He went abroad, and I stayed here. That’s how we broke up,” she replied with a calm tone as if she were discussing someone else’s life.
“Why didn’t you go abroad? It seems you didn’t love him at all,” he said, growing more irritated at her nonchalant attitude.
Clara shrugged. “Did he love me? He went abroad anyway.”
Noticing his furrowed brows, she added, “There aren’t that many grand love stories in this world. You don’t love me either, yet you married me. You let Jade get pregnant and left her out there alone. So, do you have someone you love?”
Michael’s expression darkened, and he was at a loss for words. Clara’s question lingered in his mind.
Do I have someone I love?
He couldn’t shake off the memory of that strange night. Do I love Jade?
Not really. I know very well that I’m only attached to that one unusual night, not to Jade.
Seeing his pained expression, Clara thought she had hit a nerve. She quickly finished her noodles and headed to the kitchen to wash the dishes.
Meanwhile, Emma anxiously awaited Emily’s response. She had already contacted her sources to handle the situation, but they informed her that the videos had been released by a hacker, and tracking him down was impossible.

“How’s it going, Mom?” Unable to wait any longer, Emma called Emily directly.

“Emma, this is a tough one. I found a skilled person willing to take on this job, but the fee is a little steep…”
“How much?”
Emma pressed her mother, noticing her hesitation.
“Five… million.”
“That much?” Emma slumped onto the bed, clenched her fists, and said firmly, “We have to sort this out! Go to my room and sell my designer bag and some jewelry. Mom, sell yours too! We need to come up with this money!”
“Oh, and I have a bit of cash on hand. I’ll transfer it to you.”
The big shot had just wired her a million this month. With what she had left and by selling a few more things, she should be able to raise enough.
There was no way she could let her father find out; otherwise, she would face serious consequences!
