“Emma, after all the sacrifices you’ve made, do you really think you can handle that big shot? If you can’t-”
“Mom, please stop! I’ve got it covered!” Emma was already on edge, and her mother’s nagging only added to her frustration. “Just do as I told you.”
With a huff, Emma ended the call and narrowed her eyes. This is all Clara’s fault.
Days went by, and Clara discovered that Michael had delivered another blow to Bennett Enterprise. While it wasn’t devastating, it was gratifying to see Michael challenge their arrogance, even if she wasn’t able to reclaim the company just yet.
Since Dylan had taken over, Bennett Enterprise had undergone a complete overhaul. Dylan’s loyalists now filled the ranks, while his parents‘ allies had been replaced.
Clara knew she needed to seek more opportunities to collaborate with others to strengthen her position and eventually reclaim Bennett Enterprise.
Having learned that the Bennett Enterprise had shifted its focus to another target, Clara knew she had to secure the contract for herself. After thorough preparation, she headed to her destination.
In the lounge of a club, a man with a beer belly, a receding hairline, and an unrefined appearance was discussing a partnership with another man.
The other man, elegant and distinguished, was Clara’s target for today.
As the man stood up to leave, Clara followed closely, trailing behind him toward the restroom.
“Ah!”
Suddenly, the man turned around. Unable to stop herself in time, Clara stumbled and fell. Caught by the man’s penetrating gaze, she felt a moment of panic. His look was far from warm.
It was as if a hidden predator was sizing up its prey.
“I’m very interested in your project, sir. How about I share my thoughts with you?”
Clara smiled, trying to present herself as friendly and approachable.
“We might need to reschedule. I’m in a bit of a rush today. Sorry about that.” The man glanced at his watch, slipped a business card into her hand, and then walked away.
Clara stared at the card for a long time. Does this mean he is willing to give me a chance?

As he walked away, a subtle smirk appeared on his lips, and a glint of intrigue shone in his eyes. He pulled out his phone and sent a text to his assistant. ‘Find out about Michael’s new wife- Clara Bennett.”
He had recognized her immediately. Michael’s woman wants to discuss a collaboration on her own? This is getting interesting.
Meanwhile, Michael received word that something had happened with Emma. He quickly instructed Eric to take him to the yacht.
To keep his identity concealed, he put on a mask before entering the bedroom. There, he saw a slightly plump woman sitting in a chair, her back to him.
Hearing footsteps, Emma quickly spoke up, “Don’t come any closer!”
Michael stopped in his tracks. “I heard from the maid that you had an allergic reaction after eating something. Are you okay now?”
Emma was taken aback by the deep, soothing tone of his voice, filled with concern. Her heart fluttered, and she didn’t even realize that she had heard this voice before.
“I have hives all over my face, so please don’t look at me–I must look awful. The private doctor has already been here, but since there are some medications I can’t take, it’s healing slowly. I’m sorry; it’s my fault for eating the wrong things. Thankfully, both the baby and I are doing fine.”
Emma was furious with herself. Of all the things she could have done, she had drunk oatmeal, and now she was too embarrassed to face him. She wished she could just rush over and pour out her feelings to him.
However, she knew that men from wealthy families placed a high value on a woman’s appearance.
“Well, it’s good to hear you’re doing okay,” Michael said, his gaze fixed on her back. “If you need anything, just let Eric know. And how are your parents?”
“My dad is fine now. I’ll reach out to Eric if I need anything,” Emma replied, feeling a pang of guilt. She had lied earlier about her dad being in the hospital, but it wasn’t true.
If he found out she had deceived him, he would probably resent her. She needed to make him
fall for her.
“Since you’re okay, I’ll—”
“Don’t go!” Emma exclaimed, jumping off the couch and rushing toward him. She wrapped her arms around his solid waist, burying her face in his chest and sounding pitiful. “Stay with me, please?”

Michael caught a strong whiff of her perfume, which repulsed him. Especially with her face pressed against him, his obsession with cleanliness made him want to push her away right then and there.
