Chapter 8
“Mr. Walker, the airline reports that Ms. Thompson did not check in for the flight to Japan we
booked for her.”
“We also cannot reach Ms. Thompson.”
Liam sat at his desk, dealing with the mountain of paperwork in front of him. His efficiency had
dropped significantly since Isabella’s return to Crestwood, drawing dissatisfaction from many
senior executives and shareholders.
It had been almost ten days since his last unpleasant interaction with Chloe.
Liam knew Chloe was unwilling to apologize, and he was aware he had been favoring Isabella too
much recently, so he hadn’t disturbed her.
Arranging for Chloe to receive treatment in the UK would also give all three parties some space and
distance.
“Also, the twenty million for living expenses you previously arranged to transfer to Ms.
Thompson’s account was automatically returned by the bank. The bank stated that… you and Ms.
Thompson are divorced. She is no longer part of your family account, and transfers of that
magnitude are not supported.”
Hearing this, Liam froze. The pen in his hand swerved, leaving a thick, dark line that tore through the paper in front of him.
He made a sound of annoyance and typed on his phone.
[What divorce?]
His assistant, standing nearby, was also taken aback.
“The company’s… legal department received the divorce decree about ten days ago. Your personal information has already been updated from ‘Married‘… to ‘Divorced‘.”
“You didn’t know?”
[Bring me the file.]
After a brief wait, the assistant handed the court’s divorce decree to Liam.
The document was very simple, just two pages. Liam looked at the date at the end.

It was the day Chloe had argued with him and left.
He took out his phone, thumbed aimlessly through his contacts, then finally tapped the search icon. ‘Chloe‘ was still there in his iMessage list.
[When did you file for divorce?]
The message shot into the digital void, but this time, there was no hanging suspense. In an instant, the blue iMessage bubble turned a dull, dismissive green. Beneath it, the system delivered its cold,
final verdict in gray text.
[Not Delivered.]…… The assistant standing nearby watched the changing expressions on Liam’s face, ending with him staring blankly at his phone.
[Find out where Chloe Thompson is now.]
Liam sighed, feeling helpless. After giving the instruction to his assistant, he buried himself in his work again.
“Liam, you promised to go shopping with me today.”
“I… have to work overtime.” Liam patted Isabella’s head resignedly and bent back over the contracts, signing and preparing for various business negotiations.
“Liam, when can I meet… your parents?”
“My parents are returning from abroad next week and said they’d like to meet you too.”
“My dad said if the meeting goes well, he’d like to finalize things between us.”
Isabella snatched the contract from Liam’s desk, hiding it behind her back, forcing him to look at
her.
Liam had no choice but to look at Isabella.
He observed her impeccably made–up face. At this close distance, the perfume swirling around her was a bit too strong. Liam, being allergic, inappropriately sneezed.
Isabella’s expression shifted slightly, her lips puckering a little as she leaned down to continue persuading him.
“Liam, please? I don’t want to wait any longer. You’re divorced now, so us being together is

perfectly legitimate, right?”
When Liam heard Isabella’s words, his hand, reaching for a tissue, stopped mid–air.
He turned his head and stared intently at Isabella.
“You. How. Do you know. I’m divorced?”
As these words left Liam’s mouth, Isabella was also stunned, a flash of panic crossing her features.
She quickly straightened up, averting her gaze from Liam.
“I… I heard it from… from your assistant.”
A wave of displeasure rose in Liam’s heart. He knew his assistant would never leak his personal information, so he didn’t believe Isabella’s answer.
“You. Answered. The divorce call?” Hearing Liam’s question, Isabella instead flared with a bit of
discontent.
“Liam, you said you loved me. Why are you getting angry with me over that woman?”
“I didn’t know it was the court calling. I answered for you, and then I remembered you have
selective mutism. I didn’t know how to respond on your behalf. Who knew the court had so many rules, that not replying meant defaulting to agree to the divorce?”
Isabella clasped her hands together in front of her chest, her tone dripping with coquettishness, her eyes beginning to glisten with unshed tears.
“Are you mad at me?” She walked around the desk, wrapped her arms around Liam’s neck.
“I’m sorry, Liam. It was my fault. Please don’t be angry with me, okay?”
Liam, feeling helpless, could only signal for her to get off him first. He opened his mouth to speak, but the perfume scent made him choke slightly. He thought better of it and typed on his phone.
[Meeting your parents can wait until I’m less busy.]
