Chapter 17
“Mr. Walker, you cannot fly so soon. Even knowing Ms. Thompson’s school in the UK, your health
must come first.”
Liam’s assistant was pacing anxiously by his hospital bed.
“The earliest you should fly is next month. The doctor said high–altitude environments are too risky. Haven’t you learned from what happened in Thailand?”
[Book me a flight to London, for next Monday.] Liam didn’t say much, just typed the words on his
phone.
[Find out where Chloe Thompson’s household registration is now.]
Seeing this, the assistant’s expression turned awkward.
“Following the divorce, Ms. Thompson immediately removed you as her emergency contact and
beneficiary from all her profiles–medical, financial, everything. My access to her records was revoked concurrently.”
“Furthermore, she has sold the apartment you transferred to her. The proceeds were deposited into
a new, private account. Aside from her old bank account, which she has likely closed, we have no
viable avenues to trace her.”
Liam didn’t type further. The assistant naturally remained silent.
But then, a knocking sound came from the door.
Before anyone could answer, the person entered. It was Isabella.
In just a few days since they last met, she had grown haggard.
Deep dark circles hung under her eyes, seemingly unconcealable even with thick makeup.
Her cheeks were sunken, and her whole demeanor seemed listless.
This time, Liam didn’t even need to signal his assistant, who immediately stepped forward to block
her.
“Ms. Rossi, it’s not convenient for you to enter. Mr. Walker needs rest.”
Isabella bit her lower lip tightly, tears already welling in her eyes.

“I… Liam… Please don’t push me away like this? I was really wrong… Can you forgive me?”
A look of annoyance flashed across Liam’s face.
Isabella saw this clearly and panicked completely.
“Liam… the thesis you gave me… my supervisor contacted me. It was ruled in Chloe’s favor in the academic misconduct arbitration. My… authorship, my degree, and diploma have all been
revoked.”
Her voice trembled uncontrollably, as if she were plunged into deep fear.
Hearing this, Liam remembered the absurd things he had done, and his sense of guilt towards
Chloe intensified.
“Now… the hospital is going to fire me… Just one word from you, just one word, and I can keep my job. I’m begging you, please put in a good word for me? Think of all the history we have together.”
Isabella’s knees trembled uncontrollably. Seeing Liam’s apparent indifference, she seemed to steel herself and knelt on the floor with a heavy thud.
“Liam, I’m kneeling before you. Give me a chance to make things right, please?”
Liam glanced at the kneeling Isabella and felt a slight softening in his heart.
But he only gave a slight nod before averting his eyes.
The assistant understood immediately and called security to escort Isabella away.
Isabella’s cries seemed to echo through every hospital room.
Liam opened his phone, found the email from months ago where he had packaged and sent Chloe’s thesis and all related documents to Isabella, and felt nothing but deep regret.
[Donate twenty million to the IC in Chloe Thompson’s name.]
He sent the message to his assistant.
