Chapter 24
Scrolling through the complaint post exposed on the domestic medical forum, Chloe found it
ridiculous.
She had never wanted anything that wasn’t earned by her own merit, yet here she was, drowning in a fresh wave of online outrage. Then, her phone buzzed–a perfectly timed text from an unknown number.[Chloe, I’m sorry. I didn’t know things would turn out this way.]
[I will have Isabella’s complaint post on the forum taken down immediately. I guarantee it won’t affect you. Regarding this award, please accept it with peace of mind. I won’t allow any changes to
occur. Trust me.]
It was from Liam. The whole world felt like one giant stage for absurd dramas. That was Chloe’s only thought now.
Chloe still didn’t reply to Liam. Her first action was to call the organizers, state that she did not wish to accept the award, and immediately fax a statement clarifying her position and formally withdrawing from the award. Sure enough, not long after, another message from Liam came in.
[Chloe, I am truly sorry. I will make another donation of equipment to your college. Also, I’ve just requested that the hospitals in Crestwood hold a similar competition forum again at the year’s end. This time, I will strictly control Isabella’s involvement. There will be absolutely no mistakes.]
Looking at the incoming message, Chloe felt it was laughable. After some thought, she finally
replied.
[I will not remarry you. Please leave my world.]
After sending it, she immediately blocked Liam’s new number.
Instantly, another ding announced a message from another unknown number. It was still Liam.
Chloe felt an overwhelming sense of suffocation pressing on her heart, followed by deep
helplessness. She watched the stream of apologies, promises, notifications of bank transfers, and inquiries from the institute dean.
This was the life she had once desperately wanted, but now it felt like nothing but a burden, an interference, a source of pain…Her past worry was how to firmly hold Liam Walker’s heart. But her current worry was… how to completely sever his influence and suffocating control…She knew blocking and deleting were ultimately meaningless. Liam had power and money; getting a new
number was effortless. It was impossible to avoid allintersection with him forever.

Chloe stood by the window, thinking for a long time. First, she replied to Julian, telling him she was fine and that she had deliberately lost the competition.
After that, she re–added Liam on WeChat.
[Book me the fastest flight from the US back to Crestwood. It’s better if we… meet and talk things through clearly.]
He was probably struggling to reply. Chloe stared at the gray speech bubble in iMessage, watching the typing indicator start and stop, until it finally vanished. But after several minutes, Liam only replied with one word. “Okay.”
Followed immediately by a screenshot–Liam had chartered an entire private jet to bring her back.
Chloe didn’t dwell on it further. Her mind was focused on making things perfectly clear during their meeting. Her path forward was very clear now.
She wanted to rely on herself, study well, graduate, and become a doctor, whether in Crestwood, the UK, or anywhere else.
She had too many things she hadn’t done, too many sights she hadn’t seen. She could no longer waste any energy on a man who was part of her past.
Even if she had loved him once, the current Chloe felt no attachment or concern for Liam Walker whatsoever.
