“Here, all signed.” Bella Hart shoved the papers back into Grace Miller’s hands, her tone a mix of condescension and warning. “Alexander already told me–you two are just a business
arrangement. Since that’s the case, don‘ t overstep. If it’s contracts for houses, jewelry, whatever, bring them to me from now on. Don’t bother him again. He doesn’t want to see you‘‘.”
Grace stared at the scarlet imprint, his unmistakable mark of authority, emblazoned on the Divorce Decree‘. The sight was so bitterly ironic it almost made her laugh.
She opened her mouth, about to tell Bella that this wasn‘ t a property contract but her divorce
papers-
Suddenly, a shrill alarm pierced the air.
“Fire! Everyone get out!” someone screamed.
Panic detonated across the auction hall. Guests stampeded toward the exits in a frenzy of silk, jewels, and fear.
Caught in the crush, Grace and Bella, both slight in build, were slammed to the floor.
“Aah!”
“Don’t step on me!”
Shoes trampled over them without mercy. Agonizing pain shot through Grace’s body as if her bones were about to shatter. She clawed at the ground, trying to rise, but the weight of the panicked
crowd crushed her down.
“Alexander! Alexander, help me!” Bella‘ s shrill, terrified sob rang out.
“Baby!” His voice came, urgent and fierce.
Grace looked up through the chaos and saw him forcing his way back, cutting through the
stampede. Against all reason, a fragile ember of hope flickered in her chest.
But when he reached them, his eyes locked solely on Bella. Without hesitation, he bent, scooped her up into his arms, and shielded her as he barreled toward the exit.
Not once did he look at Grace.
“Alexander! Alexander!” she screamed his name with the last of her strength. Her voice dissolved

into the cacophony of shrieks and cries.
Did he hear?
Maybe. But he never turned back.
As despair closed in, crushing her beneath the surge of bodies, a familiar figure suddenly
reappeared.
Her dimming heart flared with desperate light. He had come back–for her.
But Alexander only knelt, snatched something glinting by her side, and closed his fist around it. Without sparing her a glance, he turned to leave again.
From across the hall came Bella’s voice, bright with relief. “Oh thank God! You picked it up for me! That’s my favorite bracelet–if it broke I’d have cried for days!”
Alexander strode back to her, his voice low with relief, brimming with the same indulgent
tenderness as always. “I couldn’t let my baby cry. That’s why I went back.”
“You‘ re the best!” Bella giggled and kissed him.
Grace’s world collapsed.
So that was it. He hadn’t come back for her at all. Only for Bella‘ s bracelet.
To him, his wife of five years wasn’t worth as much as a single trinket on Bella Hart’s wrist‘‘
The despair was the last weight that crushed her. Darkness swallowed her whole.
When consciousness returned, she was on a freezing operating table. The glare of the surgical lamp
stabbed her eyes. Doctors bustled around, preparing instruments.
“Mrs. Stone, you‘ re awake?” one said quickly. “You have multiple contusions, possible rib
fractures. The most serious issue is abdominal trauma–internal bleeding. We need to operate
immediately.”
The anesthesiologist was already reaching for the mask.
Then–bang!
The OR doors flew open with a deafening crash.
A squad of black–suited bodyguards stormed in. Without a word, they ripped the IV from her hand

and dragged her bodily off the table.
“What are you doing? The patient needs surgery now!” the surgeon shouted in shock and fury.
The guards ignored him.
Grace, bloodied and broken, was hauled down the hall like discarded baggage.
“Let me go… Where are you taking me?” Her frail voice cracked with pain, every jolt tearing at her
wounds.
No one answered.
They dumped her unceremoniously onto the cold marble floor of a luxury suite.
