Chapter 10: “Stealing Sister’s Man–How Will You Face Others if Word Gets Out?”
Lily’s departure turned the atmosphere at the household strange and eerie.
She had insisted on getting engaged to Mateo, but now she suddenly said she wouldn’t marry him…
The Foster family exchanged glances, no one expected Lily, who was always easy to talk to, to leave without even looking at Mateo.
Eliza broke the silence, “Mom, Dad, please calm down. Lily is still young and doesn’t understand. She has suffered in prison and is just confused right now, that’s why she lashed out at you…”
“She’s 24 and still young?”
Derek slammed the table angrily, “How old is she? Talking without thinking. She just cancels the engagement when she says so? If she really cancels, won’t it prove that you and Mateo are not innocent?”
“Doesn’t she care about the family at all!”
Eliza lowered her head, her eyes red, “As long as my sister is happy, it’s okay if I suffer a little… It’s just a bad reputation; I can take it.”
Wren looked at her eldest daughter, feeling heartbroken, and rubbed her shoulder, “A girl’s reputation is important. If you steal your sister’s man, how will you face others if word gets out?”
Eliza bit her lip, her hands clasped in front of her.
But out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Mateo, who was sitting silently on the sofa.
He was sitting there, his fingers clearly defined, holding a cigarette, his brows slightly furrowed.
The smoke highlighted his cold face, making it hard to see clearly.
He was acting strangely.
Eliza felt uneasy in her heart. Just as she was about to approach him to comfort him, she saw Mateo stub out his cigarette and stand up.

“I’m leaving.”
Derek and Wren exchanged glances and quickly signaled Eliza.
Eliza nodded and followed Mateo out, “It’s raining outside. Let me see you off.”
As they left, Derek anxiously said, “Do you think Mateo will be angry and call off the engagement with our family? His face was dark when he left.”
The Gates family is a top tier wealthy family, and many people long to associate with them.
Mateo is the heir of the Gates family….
Being publicly rejected by a woman is a slap in his face, isn’t it?
Wren sighed, “Lily is too willful, but how many times has she been willful over the years?”
“Don’t worry, it’s normal for young people to argue. In a couple of days, when she thinks it through, she’ll apologize to Mateo on her own.”
Derek thought about it and felt his wife’s words made sense.
Yes, over the years, they had all seen Lily’s feelings for Mateo.

Even after entering prison, she still sent him a letter every week.
They grew up together; seven years of feelings can’t be easily severed.
She can’t really want to call off the engagement, she’s just angry.
Eliza sent Mateo to the door and casually adjusted his suit collar.
While doing so, she suddenly thought of something and tears welled up in her eyes.
“It’s my fault, I let Lily misunderstand again.”
Eliza lowered her head, one hand covering her face, t
tears streaming down,
“I said I wouldn’t compete with her for you, but why did she still come to cause trouble?”
“She’s really been spoiled, too willful, making you lose face in public. Mateo, it’s all my fault.”
Mateo saw Eliza crying so sadly and took out a tissue to wipe her tears.
“Don’t cry for her; she doesn’t deserve it.”
Eliza bit her lip, trying to suppress her emotions, “Don’t do this… We’re at the Foster family’s gate; what if someone sees?”
“Mateo, I said as long as I can watch you from afar, that’s enough… With my background, I don’t deserve to walk with you.”
Mateo instinctively reached for a cigarette.
Thinking of how Lily was full of thorns just now, he felt even more that Eliza in front of him was gentle and generous.
But the Gal
family is a top–tier wealthy family and won’t allow women of unknown origin to enter the door.
Especially since Eliza’s biological parents are unknown…
His heart softened, and he kissed Eliza’s hair. “Eliza, believe me, I won’t let you suffer these grievances in vain.”
Just as he finished speaking, Mateo’s peripheral vision caught a black car parked not far away.
His heart sank.
Mateo immediately reflexively let go of Eliza and took two steps forward.
Is it uncle, Jaxen?
