Chapter 11: “Scheming, Isn’t It Just to Attract My Attention?”
Because of the rain, the visibility was poor, and Mateo couldn’t clearly see the car’s license plate, so the car drove away.
Eliza walked over, “Mateo, what’s wrong?”
Mateo withdrew his gaze.
Eliza, with her slender hands holding the umbrella, worried he might get wet, held the umbrella over his head while she herself soaked in the rain.
For a moment, Mateo seemed to see Lily’s shadow on Eliza..
Lily had done the same foolish thing before.
Mateo shook his head. He didn’t love Lily, why was he suddenly thinking about her?
Seeing Eliza trembling from the cold, he took off his suit and draped it over her shoulders.
Eliza softly said, “When Lily left the Foster family so decisively, do you think she really wants to break off the engagement with you?”
“Impossible.”
Mateo casually hugged Eliza’s shoulder, “As long as she’s still Lily, she can’t leave me. She’s scheming like this, doesn’t she just want to attract my attention?”
“But she seems really angry tonight.” Eliza pursed her lips, “Why not make a call and ask where she went?”
Mateo waved his hand, unconcerned, “What’s there to call? When she thinks it through, she’ll apologize to me.”
Mateo had never proactively called Lily.
It was always Lily who took the initiative.
No matter who was right or wrong, it was always her who apologized.
Such small matters, Lily would be upset for a day or two, and then she would come and make up with him.
Mateo had long gotten used to it.
The weather was heavy and dark
Outside the window, the thunderstorm was intense, and the sky seemed to tear open a huge hole.
Ambrose looked at the unconscious woman lying in bed and whispered, “Miss Foster has a concussion. The doctor said she might need to stay in the hospital for another couple of days.”
Jaxen’s jaw clenched, he didn’t respond, his gaze falling on Lily’s ankle.
Ambrose quickly glanced, lowering his head, relaying the doctor’s words, “It was injured by porcelain fragments. The treatment was delayed, and the scar might not go away, but the bone should be fine.”
Jaxen’s thin lips tightened, his deep eyes showed no emotion, but it was hard not to feel the cold aura he exuded.
The girl lying in bed was in a pitiful state. Although her soaked clothes had been changed, her frail body lost the vitality a young girl should have.

Chapter 11: “Scheming, Isn’t It Just to Attract My Attention?”
There was still a slap mark on her face, from who knows who, on her overly pale face, so striking.
It must have hurt a lot.
Jaxen took out a cigarette from his pocket, biting it at the corner of his lips, preparing to light it..
But he stopped himself, afraid it would disturb Lily.
“Mr. Pierce is still waiting for you,” Ambrose looked at the time and quietly reminded him, “It’s getting late, if you don’t hurry, the meeting will be
over.”
“Let it be, I’m not going,” Jaxen sat down at the bedside, “I’ll stay here tonight, I’m not going anywhere.”
Ambrose’s eyes flickered. He was about to speak when Jaxen’s phone rang from his pocket.
Seeing Lily was not sleeping peacefully, Jaxen squeezed his phone, walked out into the hallway to answer.
On the other end, Josh’s loud voice immediately came through, “Jaxen, what kind of behavior is this? You suddenly leave without a word? If someone didn’t know, they’d think you were taken away by some woman.”
Jaxen smiled slightly, “Yeah, I was taken away by a woman. Are you jealous?”
“What kind of dream are you having?”
Josh laughed a couple of times and teased over the phone, “You really think after being a soldier for a few years, the country will just hand you a wife? Jaxen, wake up. Mateo, come on. It’s raining hard tonight, but don’t let it soak your brain too.”
Jaxen bit the cigarette at the corner of his lips, not responding.
He and Josh grew up together, so the latter dared to joke like this.
“Hurry up and come over, we’re waiting for you.” Josh urged, “Oh, by the way, your nephew is here too.”
Jaxen’s eyes suddenly narrowed dangerously, “Mateo?”
“Yeah, tonight’s events at the Foster family have spread, and your nephew’s mental fortitude is impressive. Even with everything going on, he still has the time to run here and drink.”
A shadow rose in Jaxen’s eyes, he curled his lips, but there was no smile, only a coldness that was terrifying.
“Wait for me, I’ll be there soon.”
