Chapter 18: The Third Party
At the entrance of the club, two bodyguards stood guard.
When Mateo tried to enter with Eliza, one of the bodyguards waved his arm, blocking them.
Seeing this, Mateo’s expression darkened, his eyes flashing with displeasure. “My uncle sent me. What’s the meaning of this?”
The bodyguard, a towering figure, spoke coldly. “I need to report inside.”
Mateo was about to explode when Eliza gently tugged at his sleeve.
She realized that Jaxen was deliberately making things difficult for her, so she smiled sweetly at the bodyguard. “I can wait here. Can Mateo go in
first?”
Since last night’s rain, the temperature had dropped significantly.
The night air was cold, and the draft from the club was biting.
Eliza, dressed in a satin dress for appearance’s sake, felt as if she were almost naked, shivering from the cold with her nose turning red.
The bodyguard, unmoved, refused firmly. “No.”
Mateo’s face darkened.
After waiting for more than ten minutes in the cold wind, the bodyguard finally returned.
“You can go in now.”
Mateo stepped forward, shooting a warning glance at the bodyguard.
The bodyguard ignored him completely.
Mateo gritted his teeth but didn’t say anything, as he knew Jaxen and the bodyguard had a close relationship.
Inside the private room, Jaxen was playing cards with Josh and others.

When Mateo entered with Eliza, Jaxen didn’t even look up.
“Uncle,” Mateo greeted first. “I brought Eliza with me.”
Just then, Josh won a hand and cheered loudly, which muffled Mateo’s voice.
Mateo furrowed his brows, already irritated, and now his anger flared further.
Eliza clutched his sleeve tightly, signaling him not to react impulsively.
After another round of cards, it had been twenty minutes since they entered.
Mateo seized the opportunity. “Uncle, if you have any dissatisfaction, take it out on me, but don’t make things difficult for Eliza.”
Before Jaxen could speak, Josh’s teasing voice echoed. “Tsk, you’re quite protective. Looks like there’s something going on between you two!”
Eliza’s face turned pale.
But she knew well that Jaxen and Josh were always close.

Chapter 18: The Third Party
Even aside from that, the Pei family wasn’t a family she could afford to provoke…
Jaxen leaned back on the sofa, and Josh understood immediately, tossing his cards and standing up, throwing his arm around Mateo’s shoulder.
“Mateo, I heard you have some good wine here. Let’s go check it out…”
It was obvious he was trying to separate Mateo.
Mateo was unwilling to go, fearing Jaxen might make things difficult for Eliza while he was away.
He turned to Josh. “Josh, how about I have someone bring the wine here so we can drink right here?”
Josh clicked his tongue, glanced at Jaxen on the sofa, and said nonchalantly, “Sure.”
He casually pointed toward Eliza. “Then let the third party serve us.”
Mateo shouted, “Josh! Watch your words!”
Everyone in the room was now staring at them, clearly enjoying the drama.
Eliza’s nails dug into her palms, but she had to wear a polite smile.
She had to endure.
As the tension in the air grew thicker, Jaxen’s cold voice cut through. “If you want to drink, go somewhere else. Eliza stays here.”
Eliza was to stay alone with Jaxen?
She froze, looking at Mateo for help.
Jaxen had spoken, and Mateo didn’t dare to object. Since they were all in the same private room, whatever happened, he would be able to see it.
But when he saw Eliza’s eyes redden, his heart softened. “Uncle, what do you need to discuss? Maybe I can listen in for a while.”
Jaxen finally raised his eyes, narrowing them. “We’re discussing the Foster Corporation project. What? When did the Gates family start listening to you?”
