Chapter 27: Kissing and Still Not Familiar

Chapter 27: Kissing and Still Not Familiar

Jaxen tightened his grip on Lily’s delicate wrist, causing her heartbeat to spiral out of control

Then, in his deep, magnetic voice, he whispered into her ear, From now on, this spot can only belong to me.”

He extended two fingers and gently tapped the spot between her eyebrows

Lily instinctively nodded, but then belatedly realized something wasn’t quite right

We don’t really know each other that well”

How had things escalated so quickly? How could they suddenly be at a point where she was expected to only think about him

We’ve slept together, kissed, and if that’s not familiar, then what is?Jaxen replied, his breath warm against her ear

The busy street around them suddenly felt much quieter, and Lily’s heart began to race, her fingers involuntarily curling

She met Jaxen’s deep eyes, took a deep breath, and felt her ears flush

After a short break at home, Lily planned to take Jaxen to the supermarket

The house looked pristine, almost like a show home, but it lacked the warmth of daily life. She needed to buy some everyday essentials

However, the thought of tonight made her nervous

Last night, Jaxen had been so drunk that he had spent the night on the sofa. But what about tonight

They were married now, so they would probably be living together, right

Just as she was deep in thought, Lily’s phone suddenly rang

Looking down, she saw a message from Elodie

I just landed. Want to grab dinner tonight?”

Lily hesitated, subconsciously glancing toward the room

The man stood tall, having changed into fresh clothes, and walked out with long strides

Lily quickly typed a reply: It might not be convenient. I got married today.”

Elodie: What’s going on?”

Lily: I’ll explain later.”

Elodie, concerned: Are you sure you weren’t tricked? Mateo is trash, but that doesn’t mean you should just give up and settle for any man.”

Lily bit her lip, glancing at Jaxen as he walked toward the bathroom. She lowered her head and typed back

It’s not just settling for any man. I saved his life.”

Elodie: Did you offer your life in exchange? Are you really that oldfashioned? Got any photos? Send one over.”

Lily: No.”

The only photo they had together was the one on the marriage certificate

However, as soon as they got home, Jaxen had taken the certificate and locked it in the safe

Elodie: So, what’s his name? What’s your husband’s name?”

Lily: Ja”

Before she could type more, Jaxen’s enlarged face suddenly appeared in front of her

Who are you texting?”

His cool breath rushed at her from behind, and Lily instinctively tensed, quickly stuffing the phone in her pocket

A friend,she said

Jaxen didn’t ask any more questions, and they both left the house together

Meanwhile, on the other side…

Buzz buzz.”

Mateo’s phone, sitting on the table, suddenly rang. He saw that it was a call from Lily

A smirk appeared at the corner of his lips

Yesterday, he had held a press conference and publicly announced that he had replaced Lily with Eliza as his fiancee, settling the scandal at the hotel

Now, Lily was calling him to win him back. Wasn’t this a bit too late

Nevertheless, Mateo was still curious about what she might say this time to try to get him back

By the fifth ring, Mateo finally answered

To his surprise, the call was immediately disconnected

The repetitive beeping of the ended call made his brows furrow

What was going on

Lily never hung up on him. Even when he intentionally ignored her calls, she would wait for it to ring six times before calling again

Thinking about this, Mateo set the phone back on the table, waiting for it to light up again

This time, he waited for a full two minutes, but the screen remained black

Mateo clicked his tongue in annoyance. A flash of coldness flickered in his eyes

So, Lily was playing games with him? Trying to get his attention with this trick

She probably thought that he would call back out of curiosity

Nice try, but it wouldn’t work

Meanwhile, Lily, who was shopping at the supermarket, didn’t realize that her phone had unlocked and automatically dialed Mateo

She had started to realize that her new husband, Jaxen, had a somewhat ethereal and distant aura about him, like he was not of this world

To make Jaxen seem more grounded, Lily handed him the task of pushing the shopping cart while she quickly selected daily necessities

He quietly followed behind her, and the scene looked quite harmonious

Suddenly, Jaxen’s phone rang

He paused, glanced at Lily as she walked ahead, and answered the call

The voice on the other end was loud and raucous

Josh’s voice boomed from the phone

Hey, Jaxen, didn’t you say you were getting married today? The party’s ready, where are you bringing the bride?”

Mateo frowned, his gaze falling on Lily’s back

She was on tiptoe, trying to reach for the large container of laundry detergent on the top shelf

The shelf was too high for her, and she was struggling a little. Her long hair flowed through the air, creating a graceful arc

Jaxen held his phone, his voice low, It’s too crowded. I’m worried it might scare her, so I’m not going.”

Josh laughed, We’re not animals. Why are you being so protective? This is supposed to be the big day, and you’re not even coming? What’s the deal?”

Jaxen didn’t respond. He pushed the shopping cart toward Lily and easily helped her take the detergent down, placing it in the cart

Lily looked back at him, smiling gratefully

Jaxen gave a small smile in return, said nothing, and walked past her toward the meat section

He picked out two steaks and added them to the cart

On the phone, Josh’s voice continued: Hey, Jaxen, are you even listening? Where are you? It’s so noisy over there.”

Jaxen replied nonchalantly, I’m with my wife at the supermarket. You guys enjoy yourselves. Put the bill on me.”

There was a long silence on the other end for about seven or eight seconds, followed by Josh’s exclamation: What the hell? I can’t believe you’re at the supermarket!”

Jaxen didn’t respond. He was probably tired of Josh’s chatter, so he just hung up the phone

When Lily heard Jaxen say, I’m with my wife, her cheeks immediately flushed

Who was he talking to? A friend

Do you want some soup?Jaxen asked

Lily snapped back to reality. Huh?”

I heard this one is very good for women’s health.”

Jaxen rested his chin on his hand, gesturing for the cashier to put the black chicken into the cart

Lily furrowed her brows, But, won’t black chicken be too much trouble to prepare?”

Jaxen’s gaze rested on her

Her skin was very fair, and her long eyelashes hid her eyes. The first thing anyone would notice about her was her delicate waist, so slender it looked like it could break with a light touch

His gaze deepened as he whispered, If it helps you gain weight, it’s not a hassle.”

Lily’s heart softened

But when she looked down at waist he was referring to, her face suddenly flushed red

Jaxen chuckled lightly. Let’s go. Time to check out and head home.”

His deep voice made Lily’s legs feel weak

But once we’re married, sharing a bed is inevitableisn’t it

Part 1 – The Message That Shattered Everything

Aveline Russell’s peaceful evening ended the moment her phone buzzed.
One unread message changed her life: blurred photos of a hotel room, clothes scattered, a man’s familiar frame.
Her heart froze when she recognized the wrist—Jaxson Thorne, her mate of four years and Alpha of the Thornpeak Pack.
The date on the pictures was crueler still: it was their mating-anniversary night, the day he’d sworn they’d celebrate together.
He’d told her he was away on urgent pack business.
Now she understood the truth—his “urgent mission” had been an affair.

Part 2 – The Weight of Betrayal

For a long moment, Aveline couldn’t breathe.
Every memory—their first bond, his promises, his laugh—now felt like poison.
Her wolf spirit stirred in the back of her mind, restless and angry.
That instinct had always disliked Jaxson; she’d ignored it, blinded by love.
Now her wolf’s growl inside her head said what her heart refused to admit: He was never yours in truth.
Aveline exhaled sharply, tears drying into determination.
If Jaxson could betray her so easily, she would choose herself for the first time.

Part 3 – The Call of No Return

She opened her contacts and dialed a hidden number—the Bloodmoon Research Facility.
When the voice on the other end answered, she spoke calmly:

“I’ve decided to join.”
A stunned silence followed.
The official warned her what that meant: once inside the classified project, she would vanish from every record—no family, no pack, no past.
Her name, her life, her identity would all be erased.
“Are you ready to walk away from Alpha Jaxson?” the voice asked.
Aveline stared at a framed photo of them smiling together and whispered, “Yes. I’m ready.”
It was the first honest answer she’d given in years.

Part 4 – The Wolf Within

After the call, she sat in the dark, feeling her wolf awaken fully.
The beast within her—the same one Jaxson had mocked as too quiet, too gentle—rose with fierce pride.
It wanted revenge, but more than that, it wanted freedom.
For the first time, Aveline listened.
Her wolf’s steady heartbeat echoed through her veins, whispering that she was born for more than heartbreak.
She was still a healer, still a warrior, still a woman capable of rebuilding from ashes.

Part 5 – The Alpha Returns

Headlights flashed outside.
The front door opened, and Jaxson Thorne walked in as though nothing had happened.
He loosened his black tie, tossed his jacket on the hook—carrying the unmistakable scent of another woman’s perfume—and disappeared into the bathroom.
Aveline stood frozen.
Every sound—the running water, the creak of the floor—felt like thunder.
She wasn’t angry anymore; she was empty.
When he finally emerged in his robe, hair damp, muscles glistening, she realized how much power he once held over her.
That power was gone now.

Part 6 – The Perfume of Another

The air between them thickened with the scent of betrayal.
Jaxson smiled faintly, stepping closer.
“What’s with that look?” he asked playfully. “Miss me, babe?”
He wrapped an arm around her waist, his touch as casual as it was possessive.
Once, that warmth would have made her melt.
Now it felt suffocating.
Aveline stepped back.
The move caught him off guard; his brows furrowed.
“Are you upset again? Did someone bother you?”
He said it like a man used to being forgiven before the apology even began.

Part 7 – The Calm Before Goodbye

Aveline took a long, steady breath.
She could have screamed. She could have thrown the phone at him.
Instead, she turned to the drawer and retrieved a small locked box.
“Here,” she said quietly, handing it to him. “A gift.”
Her tone was so controlled that he almost smiled, thinking she’d finally softened.
Inside that box wasn’t jewelry or a token of affection—it was the legal document severing their mate bond.
Her signature glimmered at the bottom in dark ink.
For a heartbeat, she felt the invisible thread between them strain, preparing to snap.

Part 8 – The Wolf’s Decision

He looked puzzled, but she didn’t wait for his reaction.
She spoke evenly, her voice stripped of emotion.
“Four years, Jaxson. I gave you loyalty, trust, and love. You gave me lies.”
He opened his mouth to defend himself, but she raised a hand.
“No more excuses. You don’t have to explain the perfume, the late nights, the missing anniversaries. I already know.”
Her wolf stirred proudly at her strength.
This wasn’t the weak woman who used to beg him to stay.
This was the beginning of something new.

Part 9 – The Rebirth of Aveline

When Jaxson tried to reach for her again, she stepped aside.
His hand grazed the air where she once stood.
“You’ll regret this,” he said flatly, his pride pricked.
Aveline met his gaze without flinching.
“No,” she answered. “For the first time, I won’t.”
Her words cut deeper than any weapon.
Then she walked past him, out into the cold night, her wolf pacing inside her chest like a heartbeat of liberation.
In the distance, the moon hung low and red—an omen of endings, and beginnings.

Part 10 – The Alpha’s Fall, the Luna’s Rise

When Aveline closed the door behind her, Jaxson stood frozen with the open box in his hand.
He finally saw what she’d given him: the rejection papers that dissolved their bond.
The Alpha who thought he could own her had just been abandoned by the one woman who had ever loved him sincerely.
Outside, Aveline didn’t look back.
Tomorrow, she would join the Bloodmoon Research Facility, vanish from every record, and be reborn under a new name.
Her old life would die here tonight.
In its place, something stronger would rise—the woman her wolf had always known she could become.
Betrayed by her mate, freed by her pain, Aveline Russell walked into the dark with her head held high.
For once, the silence didn’t hurt.
It sounded like freedom.
