Chapter 30: Why Should I Bail You Out When We’re Getting a Divorce?
Mateo’s breath caught, “You think I’m dirty?”
“Yes! Mateo, can’t you understand what I’m saying?”
Lily’s eyes were red as she finally exploded, the years of pent–up emotions pouring out in a single burst.
“I used to chase after you, following you around like a little tail. But when you secretly started a relationship with Eliza and had me sent to jail, that was the end for us!”
Glass shattered all over the floor. Someone’s blood had mixed with it, but Lily didn’t care.
“Now I’ve woken up. Let’s just say I was blind to have liked you in the first place. What’s the matter? You can’t accept that, can you?”
A cold smirk appeared on her face.
Mateo didn’t let go of her, so Lily grabbed the broken bottle, now a sharp shard, and began slamming it onto his hand.
“I congratulate you. You got what you wanted! You’re finally going to marry Eliza. But now you’re holding my hand, aren’t you worried about your precious Eliza getting jealous?”
With one final, forceful swing, the glass bottle shattered completely. The pieces scattered across the floor, sharp and dangerous.
She tossed the bottle cap aside, noticing that Mateo’s arm was covered in blood. His face showed no sign of emotion.
At that moment, Elodie rushed over, worried. “Lily, are you okay?”
Lily’s arm was stained with blood, and the scene was chaotic, which naturally worried Elodie. But luckily, there didn’t seem to be any cuts on her.
Just as Elodie finally let out a sigh of relief, she saw police officers filing in one after another.
It turned out someone had quietly called the police–no one knew when.
A few men who were close to Mateo quickly approached him to check on his injury. “Mateo, are you alright?”
No one had expected things to escalate to this point.
Mateo remained silent, his lips pressed together tightly, his face pale.
His arm was badly injured, with blood flowing steadily.
One of his friends suggested, “Mateo, the ambulance is here. Let’s get you to the hospital.”
Mateo nodded silently, casting a complicated glance at Lily before he left.
Lily didn’t look back, her gaze steady and unwavering. She didn’t want to give him any more of her attention.
At the city police station, Lily sat in the interrogation room, her body stained with blood.
Her face was pale, and her frail form curled up on the chair. She was silent, but there was a deep sense of brokenness about her.
Elodie, sitting beside her, was visibly worried. “Lily, are you okay? Why are you shaking?”
They had rushed to the police station, and Lily had left her jacket behind at the bar.
Now, she was only wearing a red knitted slip dress.

The chill of the night made her uncomfortable.
Lily turned to Elodie, forcing a smile. “I’m fine, just cold.”
Elodie hesitated. She, too, was wearing just a thin shirt, but she offered her jacket to Lily,
“You were so brave earlier, taking on Mateo. When he left, his face was all blue. I bet no one’s ever dared to do that to him before.”
Lily hadn’t intended to hurt him, but when Mateo grabbed her and tried to drag her out of the bar, she didn’t expect things to escalate this much.
Mateo had ignored her in the past, always treating her like air, but now that they were apart, why was he still holding on?
And then, after he had announced his engagement to Eliza at the press conference yesterday, it should have been clear to him that there was no reason for them to continue any further.
A police officer entered the room.
“Miss Foster, we’ve reviewed the surveillance footage from the incident. Your actions were in self–defense, so according to the law, you won’t face any charges. However, someone will need to come and bail you out.”
Elodie immediately stood up. “Can I bail her out?”
The officer glanced at her. “No, you’ll need a family member to come and bail her out.”
Elodie sighed, glancing at the clock on the wall. It was already 2:30 AM, and her parents were probably asleep by now.
She didn’t want to worry them by waking them up in the middle of the night.
After a moment of hesitation, she called her husband, Josh.
The phone rang a few times before being answered. In the background, there was loud noise, and it sounded like Josh was playing cards with someone. There was even a woman’s voice faintly heard.
Josh’s voice was indifferent as he answered, “What’s going on?”
Elodie didn’t waste time with pleasantries. She spoke coldly, as if she were talking to a stranger, “Come to the police station and pick me up.”
After a few seconds of silence, Josh’s voice was heard again, tinged with sarcasm,
“Getting yourself into trouble? You’re at the police station now? Elodie, you really know how to get yourself into messes.”
Elodie clenched her phone, hearing the impatience in his voice.
She was about to hang up when Josh suddenly added, “I’ll come get you, but…“
Elodie waited for him to continue, her patience wearing thin.
“Give me a child.”
Elodie was taken aback.
“What? A child? We’re about to divorce, and you want me to have a child with you? Josh, have you lost your mind?”
She could tell he was deliberately making it difficult for her.
Their marriage had been one of convenience, a political alliance. Josh had his own person in his heart, but due to family pressure, he had married her.
This marriage had never been something Elodie had wanted.

For two years, she had been living in this empty marriage, holding on to hope only to end up with despair.
When she realized that Josh would never love her, she had suggested a divorce.
He had agreed, and now they were figuring out when to finalize the process.
Yet now, he was asking her to have his child?
What kind of joke was that?
It was clear that Josh didn’t want to come to the police station and was using this request to get her to back off.
“So,” Josh’s voice became even more mocking, “Since we’re getting divorced, why would I bail you out?”
Elodie was stunned. Before she could respond, the phone went dead.
She stood there, staring at the phone, her mind racing.
Her eyes began to fill with tears, but she forced herself to calm down and smiled, though it was a painful and bitter expression.
“You saw it, right? This is how things are between us. Josh won’t come.”
Lily, heart aching for her friend, gently pulled Elodie into a comforting hug.
Elodie clearly didn’t want to dwell on this topic, and she quickly changed the subject. “My useless husband looks like we’ll have to rely on your husband to bail us out.”
Lily bit her lip, unsure whether Jaxen was even awake at this hour.
They had just gotten married, and now she was asking him to come to the police station and bail her out.
It was all too absurd, especially after the mess they had just gone through.
How would Jaxen think of her now?
