Chapter 2
Alex covered her mouth and laughed, deliberately exposing the red marks on her neck. “Little Liam, your girlfriend really doesn’t trust you–watching you like a hawk. Oh wait, I should say fiancée now, right? When you get married, don’t forget about your brother!”
She pushed out her chest, her pale breasts brushing against Liam’s arm in an obviously intimate
gesture.
I scoffed and looked at Liam. “You really believe her transgender bullshit?”
Ever since she got this convenient excuse, Alex had been glued to Liam’s side like a madwoman.
Using the “brotherhood” banner, they ate together, lived together, without even basic boundaries.
No one could understand my shock when I tried to surprise Liam for his birthday, only to find Alex lying in his bed!
Faced with my hysterical questioning, Liam just said dismissively, “Alex had a fight with her family
and is temporarily staying at my place. Don’t make such a big deal out of it.”
I looked at the several empty guest rooms in the Reed house and suddenly felt exhausted.
Liam’s next words made me feel like I was falling into an abyss. “Quinn, after we get married, there
will be more and more women around me for business purposes. Are you going to be jealous of every single one? I know your family background is ordinary, but you shouldn’t need me to explain
basic principles over and over again.”
Memories flashed through my mind. I took a deep breath and looked at Liam. “Let’s break up.”
Liam’s face showed a flash of shock, but before he could say anything, Alex interrupted, “Little Liam, your fiancée is getting smart–she’s learned to use retreat as advance.”
With just a few words, she turned my hard–won decision into a joke.
She even came over and patted my shoulder. “Girl, I already told you I’m not interested in Little Liam. Why are you reacting so strongly? I told you, I’m psychologically male. I have the test reports to prove it. Why won’t you believe me?”
I glared at Alex, my tone sarcastic. “Whether you’re male or female, what does that have to do with
me wanting to break up? Alex, you know exactly what’s in your heart.”
Taking off the ring Liam had given me, I turned to leave.

He clicked his tongue and finally took his hand off Alex’s ass to pull me back. “Quinn, stop making a
scene, okay? There’s an auction tonight. I’ll take you to see it–you’ve probably never been to that kind of place, right? Just don’t embarrass me when we get there.”
Ugh!
Looking at Liam’s condescending attitude, I stepped back in disgust. “Liam Reed, you’re absolutely
revolting.”
Three years of dating–I thought I’d found my soulmate.
In college, he’d fallen for me at first sight and had gone to great lengths to pursue me.
Growing up surrounded by men, I thought all men in the world were like my father – big, rough, tough guys.
Meeting Liam showed me there were different kinds of men.
But however much I’d liked him then, that’s how much he disgusted me now.
I turned to leave, but just as I exited Liberty Mall, I felt a rush of air behind me.
Everything went black, and I passed out.
