Chapter 537
Miles, who’d been bored out of his mind the whole evening, finally brightened up the moment he saw Beck” Finally! You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for you.”
Beck smiled and patted him on the shoulder, and when he noticed Wynn looking over, gave her a polite nod before sitting down beside Miles.
Linda didn’t know that Beck would be there too.
The scene of him bluntly rejecting her before was still vivid in her mind, and it still stung. So, when he showed up, she only glanced at him once before quickly lowering her head, not daring to look again. 3
Miles said, “Let’s play Mafia later. Since Trevor isn’t here tonight, we can finally have some fun. He wins every time, so it completely ruins the experience for the rest of us.”
Beck had already eaten before coming, but still took a few bites of the barbecue. Hearing that, he smiled, clinked glasses with Miles, and said, “Sure.”
They ate for a bit longer, but soon Miles and the rest couldn’t wait to start the game.
Beck, however, was a little distracted.
Ever since he arrived at the campsite, he had been quietly scanning the area, but hadn’t seen Celeste anywhere.
After two rounds of the game, just as the next one was about to start, Beck suddenly paused, smiled faintly, patted Miles on the shoulder, and pointed in a direction.
“I’m going to say hi to someone.”
Miles glanced over and saw he was pointing at Matthias. He didn’t think much of it and waved him off. “Go, go.”
Then, he turned back to continue playing.
The others didn’t notice, but Wynn did. She clearly saw that Beck’s mind wasn’t on the game at all.
But Beck had completely ignored her, not even realizing she’d already seen right through him. (3)
Thinking of how he couldn’t wait to go find Celeste, Wynn pressed her lips tightly together. 1
Miles did notice that she didn’t seem very happy tonight, but assumed it was because Trevor hadn’t come, and didn’t think further. 3
Linda, too, was watching Beck leave.
Moments ago, she’d been too nervous to even look at him, but realizing he’d seen her and didn’t even want to acknowledge her made her heart sink further.
Now, watching him walk away, she felt even more dejected–so much so that she couldn’t even focus on the
game anymore. 2
Matthias and Kieran had just returned to get some drinks when they spotted Beck.
Matthias was surprised—he hadn’t seen either Beck or Trevor earlier and assumed they weren’t coming tonight. But now that he saw Beck alone, he realized Trevor really wasn’t here. Í
As Beck walked over, Matthias greeted him politely. “Mr. Harper.”
Beck smiled. “Mr. Yoder.”
After a brief pause, he asked, “Ms. Rodriguez isn’t here?”
Matthias knew Beck had been on good terms with Celeste recently, so, hearing him ask, he pointed in a direction. “She’s here–over there.”
Beck nodded. Seeing the drink in Matthias’s hand, he said, “That’s for Ms. Rodriguez? If you don’t mind, may I join you? I’d like to say hello.”
Matthias thought it was quite considerate of him. Clearly, Beck valued this potential business partner. “Sure.”
After walking for a bit, Beck finally saw Celeste. But when he did, he realized she wasn’t alone. Beside her were Caleb and Kieran. 5
Hearing footsteps, Caleb and Kieran both turned around.
When they saw Beck, Kieran’s expression instantly darkened, while C
