Shaun was here!
Sierra had been waiting for Shaun for what felt like forever–glancing around and checking the road, wishing he would finally show up. Now that he was here, she lit up with excitement.
“Mr. Lane, you came just in time! Hurry up and catch Zada!”
Shaun came in with his men, his sharp, cold gaze landing right on Sierra.
Sierra sounded almost hysterical. “Mr. Lane, Zada killed Halsey! She tried to escape on a boat, but she didn’t make it. You’re here at the perfect time. Catch her and make her pay for what she did to Halsey!”
Zada glared at her. “Sierra, do you even hear yourself? Look around–can’t you see what’s really going on?”
Shaun’s tone was icy as he asked Sierra, “Who exactly poisoned Halsey?”
Sierra pointed right at Zada. “It was her! Zada put poison in the chicken soup and fed it to Halsey herself. You already know that! You had her arrested, but she managed to escape and tried to run away again!”
Zada sneered, “You’re the one who killed Halsey.”
“No, Mr. Lane, don’t listen to her!” Sierra snapped. “She’s the murderer!”
Shaun said calmly, “How about I let you meet someone?”
Sierra froze, not understanding what he meant. “Who? This isn’t the time for that–we need to get revenge for Halsey! Arrest Zada already!”
Zada said quietly, “Sierra, I really think you should meet this person.”
Sierra looked from Zada to Shaun. Why were they both saying that? Who was this person? A wave of unease hit
her.
“Who do you want me to see?”
Just then, a sleek black car rolled up to the curb. Shaun walked over and opened the back door. Someone familiar stepped out.
When Sierra saw who it was, she froze in place, her breath catching in her throat. Her mind went blank, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
No way! How could it be her?
It was Halsey!
Shaun gently helped Halsey out of the car. She wore a loose cream–colored dress that made her look delicate and soft. Her limbs were thin, her belly slightly rounded, and her small face glowed with color and beauty.
Sierra rubbed her eyes hard, thinking she must be seeing things.
Halsey was supposed to be dead.

She had seen it herself at the hospital–Halsey coughed up blood and died. How could a corpse be standing here, alive and breathing?
But here she was.
Shaun and Halsey walked up to Sierra.
Halsey smiled faintly. “You look surprised to see me.”
The sound of her voice made Sierra’s heart stop. It was real. Halsey was alive.
But Sierra still couldn’t understand. She took two shaky steps forward, her voice cracking.
“This can’t be real. You died! I saw it with my own eyes–you and your baby were both gone. How are you still
alive?”
Zada stepped up beside Halsey, her tone sharp. “Halsey never died. We had to use this trick to expose who you really are.”
Shaun nodded, his voice turning hard.
“We have all the proof. You hired those thugs to hurt Zada. You tried to frame me at the club. You poisoned Halsey’s chicken soup. With everything you’ve done, you won’t be seeing the outside world again for the rest of your life.”
