Chapter 1086
Wendy turned around and walked away. She wandered alone through the quiet hallway when a low, warm voice rang out from behind her.
“Wendy.”
She stopped and looked back to see Stanley catching up to her.
He had followed her out.
“Wendy!” Stanley called as he walked closer.
Wendy quickly took several steps back. “Don’t come any closer! We should keep some distance between us.”
He still carried the Heartchain Curse in his body. The closer he got to her, the worse the pain became.
Stanley was the kind of man who never cried out, no matter how much it hurt. Because he stayed silent, Wendy never really knew how much pain he was in. The only thing she could do for him was stay far enough away.
Seeing her back away, Stanley froze where he stood. There were only a few steps between them, yet it felt like an impossible distance.
Wendy asked Stanley softly, “What did you want to talk to me about?”
He hesitated for a moment. “Nothing. I just wanted to see you.”
Wendy’s heart softened a little. “I-”
Before she could finish, a familiar voice interrupted her. “Stanley, what are you doing here?”
Wendy looked up and saw Jessica walking toward them.
Jessica was here.
Shaun’s proposal party was meant for close friends and family only, yet Jessica had managed to find the place so quickly. It was obvious she wasn’t going to give up on Stanley.
Jessica walked straight over and wrapped her arm around his. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming here? I’ve been looking all over for you!”
Stanley’s eyes left Wendy’s face and turned to Jessica. “You need something?”
“Of course I do!” Jessica said brightly. “We’re almost getting married, remember? Come with me tomorrow to try on wedding outfits! I just got the custom dress Ms. Olsen ordered for me, and I want you to be the first person to see me in it.”
Her tone was overly sweet, every word designed for Wendy to hear.
Stanley didn’t say a thing.
Jessica turned to Wendy as if she had just noticed her. “Oh, you’re here too! Stanley’s coming with me tomorrow to the bridal shop. Wanna come?”

Wendy’s voice was cool. “I’m busy tomorrow.”
Without another word, she turned and left.
Jessica’s grin widened, the joy barely hidden on her face. She loved getting under Wendy’s skin, and seeing that hint of emotion in her eyes made her feel victorious.
Jessica turned to Stanley and asked in mock confusion, “Why did Wendy just leave like that?”
Stanley pulled his arm out of her grasp. “You know exactly why we’re getting married.”
She froze.
His eyes were cold, his voice sharp with disdain. “So stop pretending. I’m worried you’ll start believing your own act.”
Then he turned and walked away, leaving her standing there, furious.
Jessica stomped her foot in anger. She swore that one day, she’d make Stanley fall for her!
Wendy stepped outside to get some fresh air.
Jessica’s words had stung, but more than that, she felt queasy again due to morning sickness. She gently placed a hand on her belly. She was three months pregnant now. 2
Because she was expecting twins, her stomach had already started to show. But like Halsey, she wore loose clothing, so no one had noticed.
Wendy took a deep breath, ready to head home.
Just then, a hand reached out from behind and grabbed her arm.
